i now no exactly what i am looking for and would appreciate some advice please

i am looking for an Nvidia GEforce Graphics card that can handle HD easily, has 2 outputs ( VGA and DVI ) isnt expensive and is quite, i dont mind a small fan but not a jet engine or i would be happy with passive but heat may be an issue so a small fan would be preferable and it must have a 2pin s/pdif input header on it, which i think most Nvidia GEforce cards have, also it needs to be PCI-E

what i dont need is onboard audio processing, just the 2 pin s/pdif header for audio pass through amd it will never be used for gaming just HTPC work

appreciate some recomendations guys please :)

can't you just disable the GPU HDMI audio and use the mobo SPDIF? Or is it a cable length issue which is why you need it up to the card socket plate?

Ae you just routing the sound up to the card, or does having the input header give you control over it, or something?

I was going to try this as my GPU [4850] box says it comes with an HDTV cable - but it wasn't in the box

If it's being used as an HTPC, then can't you just run SPDIF to your amp, HDMI to your telly, and then disable the HDMI audio device? That's an option on my system

But as I can't plug it in, I can't test it I'm afraid - assuming you have tried this, will that kill HDMI video as well?

ok some answers
1. yes as we all can but then i would loose the sound to the Tv as my HDMI cable goes to my telly which has great sound , if i turn the sound off to the HDMI GPU using the 3450 with on board sound processing i would be stuck with listening to my amp 24/7 not what you need for 90% of Tv watching , i only use the amp for DVD`s and maybe some gusto music listening
2. cable length is no issue , i made my own fly lead which comes out the back of the HTPC and is connected to a coaxial digital cable then on to my amp
3.i`m presently routing s/pdif from the mobo s/pdif out to the Graphics card ( 9300 GS ) s/pdif in AND as said in no 2 to my coaxial digital cable, this gives me simultanious s/pdif out just by selecting HDMI audio in the defualt audio devices setup
4. ditto
5. as said previous , i can disable what i like but the point is why should i , its possible to have duel s/pdif out to the TV and amp at the same time with the selection of 1 default audio device and thats the HDMI mobo audio out

it sounds very complex but seriously it isnt , the biggest job is to make a lead which i have done , it all works 100% perfect and is at the moment but the graphics card itself isnt great at producing High Def pictures , its just to lowly , thats why i need a graphics card that has NO on board sound processing just pass through and has better HD output to my Telly :)

i wil add , i only realised last night that this was not common knowledge , i asked in the other thread for help which was kindly given and at the time i just didnt realise that on board sound processing would be problematic due to its needed driver , for a HTPC user sound from 1 single default device that gives 2 outputs is invaluable and saves having to switch 1 off to allow another, that just seems daft to me

if someone where to make and sell a lead that has a 2 pin female header 1 end ( the bottom ) splits in a Y and has a 2 pin female say on the left and a RCA female on the right , i`m willing to bet it would be very popular
