Need a new pc. Completely everything needed for basic use my old pc is out of date only use is internet , burning cds, watching and downloading films, I want to be able to display directly onto a flat screen tv that I have not yet purchased also. So want to just have one screen in my room which will be a tv, will a tv work as a monitor ok ? What do I need, I will source tv from else where. Just want a pc that will suit my needs

I would listen to music on it too, have a 2.1 sound system to plug in, and have a mouse and key board

Intend to buy a 24 inch tv or there abouts so any recommendation in that area be good too

What budget have you got?

Do you want it small? or not worried about having a big tower?

Do you need an OS, or have you got one?

Im using my TV as a monitor. :)

Can't see me playing any games. Have no interest in pcs etc any more. So imagine I won't need much budget but don't want completely basic either just don't need some mad build. 99% of time will be me on internet browsing forums and that's about all. Downloading and burning DVD and music is the rest of the time.

Maybe some sort of graphics card to run on the tv ? But want it to run quiet too.don't mind about size but don't need a massive case, I just know I want only one screen in my bedroom, il plug my sky box into the tv, want to be able to play downloaded films straight onto tv without having to burn DVDs so much

Future proof would be good though so base it on something that I can maybe configure a bit more if needed say next year. I might need a operating system, might have access to one.. what price is windows anyway, might try ubuntu

I don't mind building it if it will be better spec for the money. But if a good one off shelf is there then why bother

You could save yourself a good £70/£80 with not getting a copy of Windows and just getting Ubuntu. You mentioned you want to stream straight to your TV so you could download XBMC for that which is compatible with Linux.

You're not going to need an extremely powerful GPU either, maybe something with an HDMI out port so you can plug into your TV, lots of GPU's come with HDMI ports these days anyway.

Not exactly familiar with ITX builds so maybe some of the other guys can shed some light on those but apparently they are really good for your basic/media set ups.

Wel not stream, I mean just play movies that have already downloaded, directly onto my tv... Withou having to burn them to disk and use DVD player. But I want that screen to be my tv to watch sky on and maybe even plug a console into too.

Yeah sorry maybe 'stream' was the wrong way of putting it. XBMC is like a Media program that will play all your music, videos, etc. Check it out if you have never heard of it.

So, I want to order something be it A pile of components or a out of box system, this week. Any input people, I am well out of the loop

Seems i am right, no interest unless spending 2k on some machine just because i have discovered a world beyond PC's and the big wide world outside lol
