As the thread title says... i just bought a 7990 card today and the second any game loads up that is graphically intensive my computer just shuts off and restarts. It was fine yesterday with my 5870 but i guess my PSU needs changing.
Even though its 950 watts its a 4 year old Arctic pro which no one has hardly heard of so i was wondering what people would suggest.
What wattage would i need also.

My spec is..
Samsung Green 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel
Intel Core i5 3570K 3.40GHz @ 4.40GHz Ivybridge CPU
HIS 7990 dual card.

Thanks for any advice.

I'm not surprised your PSU is having trouble.

If the spec I've found is correct it seems to have four separate 20 amp rails, and these cards can easily pull more than 20 amps.

Will you be running just the one 7990 or would you like the option of crossfire?

These are all excellent PSU's. You want a 620+ watt for a single 7990, (not all are modular), or 1000+ watt for crossfire.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Antec High Current Pro 1000W '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply £229.99
1 x Seasonic 1000w '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply £199.99
1 x Seasonic G series 650w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £99.95
1 x Antec High Current Gamer M 620W "80+ Bronze" Modular Power Supply £79.99
1 x XFX Pro 650W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £71.99
1 x Seasonic S12II 620W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £67.99

Joel, that site doesn't list Arctic Power. Also they are not all Seasonic made, the Antec HCP's and HCG 750 are actually Delta's, which are as good if not better.

As Stulid says a 620w would be a safe bet. There are conflicting reviews regarding the power draw of the 7990, so I've updated my post to reflect that, allowing for the worst case scenario, which is nearly 400 watts per card.

i must admit i didnt check all of the supply's. i had checked the HGM 620 the other day so knew that was seasonic (assumed the HCP & HCG 750 were the same), the seasonic's are seasonics and the corsair ax one was a seasonic.

No not all the Antecs are Seasonic, however the High Current series are all either Seasonic or Delta so either way they are all excellent quality units.

Unfortunately the only 2 Corsairs that are Seasonics now are the AX 760 and 860 (excl i series), and it's unlikely that these will last much longer, all the others are nearly all CWT or CPT and are not as good quality.
