Need New Ram - Ordering Tonight Hopefully

So just had a BSOD, had a few and screen artifacts / black blocks randomly show on screen for a while, ran Aida64 under multiple tests with each option selected. Hardware Failure only when running test on just one of the ram sticks, using same slot for testing.

It gives me a reason to upgrade anyway, so going to buy a 5800X3D and some new ram. Gaming at 1080p. So what ram should I go with? GPU will get upgraded a little later.

Current system specs are

Ryzen 7 2700X
Gigabyte X470 AORUS GAMING 7 WIFI ATX AM4 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2666 CL16 Memory
RTX 2070 8 GB Video Card

I've already updated to F60 BIOS which supports this CPU.

Theres a 32gb kit on MM for £45 if you wanted to save a few quid.

If buying new though personally I'd just go with an AM5 refresh, you can get a 7800X3D for not much more than a 5800X3D while new DDR5 isn't much more than DDR4 either.

X3D chips aren't fussy with ram speed, the Corsair set is fine. If there's a substantial saving on the 5700X3D go for that instead, there's not much between them and £299 seems a touch steep.

Cheap 90% + isopropyl alcohol will be fine for removing the old paste, you can even buy cleaning swabs in little packets for a couple of quid for ease of use.

New refresh needs new MB, CPU, RAM? Wouldn't I need even need a new PSU? Realistly can it be done for around £600 to upgrade to AM5?

Open to suggestions. Looking for longtivity and better gaming experience overall.

The 5800x3d makes sense as you gave an x470 motherboard,you could drop to the 5700x3d to save 10% while being 4% slower on average.

M2 drive support is max pcie3 speed on your board although a pcie4 drive will work but obviously slower than in a pcie4 slot.

Also be aware the second m2 slot on your motherboard runs at pcie2 X4 so half the speed of the pcie3 slot maxed out.

32gb memory makes sense.

Yeah I think going with AM5 at this stage isn't the most ideal unless I'm spending more serious money on it. Also leaves extra for a new GPU when it's time.

Is there a better option for the M.2 storage? I couldn't find a PCEI3 around the same price.

You have 3 memory in your list personally go for the cheaper as the cost to performance doesn't make sense.

Upgrade in increments the CPU first making sure it all works fine , memory next and then storage.

Just get the cheapest, X3D doesn't care much about memory speed, the £60 set is absolutely fine.

If you want a new platform, the AMD 7600 performs about on par with the 5800x3d and is pretty cost effective.

There won't be £20 worth of performance between them so I would get the teamgroup but if you go for the 3600mhz you may gain a few more (2 to 3) FPS but just that.

Ryzen tuned means it has some profiles for amd but all the other memorys will usually work.

@mickyflinn thanks for that! Decided to stick with AM4, came out a little cheaper than your AM5 build and instead of having to buy a new MB, I was able to get some extra storage that's much needed. Now I just have to wait until tomorrow for delivery

Sorry busy day at work so missed this but I would have said stick with your motherboard and go 5800x3d.
