I just upgraded my P4 system to an X2 5200+, an Abit KN9 Neo-F motherboard and a 7600GT PCI-E card. The thing is, I was using 2 x 1Gb generic sticks of DDR2 (PC24200 COMPETITOR! special) from my P4 system and now my new system more often than not refuses to boot, although the fans come on etc.. is this probably the ram at fault? after a few hard power shunts it will boot, but not always stable.. the psu is a decent 550w one so I rule that out.

I checked the Abit website and it seems there are specific brands that work best, but what should I go for (on a budget)? Corsair Value Selct any good, or maybe the Geil value stuff? I have never paid attention to using anything other than generic stuff before and I have been alright, I think I have been bitten on the bum this time though? :p

EDIT:Hmm, a quick check on the Abit website states my ram should be okay?

http://www.abit.com.tw/test-report/kn9_series.htm?2 says:

and my current ram is KVR533D2N4K/2G

Is that seemingly okay? Sorry for all the questions, a complete bewb at all this :)

Check things like the RAM timings within the BIOS make sure they match what the RAM is spec'ed for. Also check what speed the RAM is being run at.

What PSU is it? Just being curious :)
