Need new sound card ASAP!!

Hi all, I got some recommendations from this thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18362197

Picked up an X-FI XtremeGamer Fatal1ty PRO from helois, forgot to check and its PCI, the only PCI slot I have/had available was right between my GPUs' now my top card is hitting 94c after a half hour on BF3 as the card blocks the fan

So it needs to be changed out asap.

Either dolby headphone or CMSS-3D required for using headphones, MUST be PCIex1 (the small one) as I have a spare slot above my top card.

Any and all recommendations welcome, the only things it needs to have is dolby headphone or CMSS-3D and run on PCIEx1.

At the moment its looking a toss up between the Xonar DX and the X-FI Titanium 7.1, both meet the above required spec and both retail between £55-£60, any opinions? or worth pushing the boat out into D2X territory?

Not really. It's more geared toward home theatre use. As a sound card for headphones, or stereo speaker use, it doesn't do anything that the DX can't do. If you got a D2X, you'd be paying for things and features, you won't use.

Both Xonar DX and X-Fi Titanium are very good cards. Each has their fans, so it depends on who you speak to, as to which is best.

As for Dolby Headphone or CMSS 3D. Well, again, some prefer DH, while some prefer CMSS.

CMSS works best with angled driver headphones. Sennheiser HD5xx, Panasonic RP-HTF600, for eg. Dolby Headphone, works best with non angled driver headphones.

Looks like you have DT990 headphones?

I've got a pair of Goldring DR150's myself, which have non angled drivers. Having used both CMSS 3D and Dolby Headphone, DH works best with them.

Xonar DX is probably the card to get, as the DT990's have non angled drivers, AFAIK.

So a DX sounds like the way to go then, thanks so much for the reply, I'm sure sound cards have made me loose a little hair over the last week or so

I'll nip into town on my way back from work tomorrow and pick one up

Edit: or not, according to the place I was going to get it from the nearest stock for collection is a mere 372miles away in Norwich! Guess I'll order then.
