Not an easy answer m8 . Theres so many makes to choose from as well as formats. I prefer Panasonic , I have an older model NV-GS11 ,nice'N' light , great picture quality and above all it's mini-DV . I would'nt have the DVD disk models nor the hard drive versions. The tapes are cheap ,can be stored easily and transfered to PC or whatever.I was going to upgrade to a 3CCD model ,Panasonic of course , but i'm happy with what I have at the moment ,So why bother .I've had a few over the years , Samsung ,Sharp but the Panny is still tops .

Another vote for Panasonic. I've had the GS5B model for over 4 years and it's been a great little performer, even now. They've discontinued that model now but I'm sure there are follow on models which are probably worth looking at.
