Sup lads,

I was wondering whether you could give me your opinion on a system that I am planning on order in the next day or two:

- Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB)
- Asus P5Q Deluxe Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
- HIS ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express)
- G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-8000C5 (2x2GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit -(F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ)
- Coolermaster Stacker 832 - Black Trim
- Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)
- Samsung SpinPoint F1 750GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD753LJ)
- Pioneer DVR-215DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black)
- Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)
- Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)
- Akasa Rounded Ultra ATA133/100/66 IDE Cable (0.45m) - Blue
- Yate Loon D12SL-12 120mm Case Fan - 3 Pin

Total : £962.29 incl vat

I am pretty confident about every except for the RAM. I plan to overclock the processor quite a bit so obviously want RAM that is up to the task. I have no problem getting more expensive stuff assuming it is better.

Secondly, I am living in Dublin, Ireland. A few years back when I last built a rig, you had to fax in a copy of your credit card statement, credit card and photo id and get the items delivered to the address on the cc statement in order for overclockers to fulfil the order.

Does anyone know if this is still the case or have they got rid of this requirement.

Thanks for any help in advance.

P.S. For anyone in overclockers.co.uk reading this thread. The rule is retarded if it is in fact still in place.

Ah your ram will be more than fine! My pc6400 ram goes way up over 900mhz so that will be awesome for overclocking.

Random question but whats the ide cable for?? (unless you want a nice way of attaching old drives without using the old cables)

I dunno about the shipping requirements (try a web note to them, though i dont know how to do this), but you will get charged more for delivery for it going over the irish sea (even if its more than likley flown) which has got me a few times before

Have no problems paying the extra charge for delivery. Tis expected tbh.

As for the IDE cable. I have two old drives that I intend to stick in as well :D they are old but no point wasting 700gigs :)

Awesome RIG, even any need to overclock it.

I only overclock normally if games start to struggle. That way you see the benefit.

Cheers for the replies lads :)

Does anyone happen to know if that retarded crap about faxing statements etc still stands?

as pingwing says, hit them with a webnote - or call the shop, problem solved bud, best of luck with your new build btw.

pick MX-2 instead of AS5, apart from that everything is just fine. And if you got extra cash you could look for another 2 small drives in raid setup.

All is ordereded. Thanks for the advice lads..

The order went through smoothly enough except for a warning advising that the items that I ordered were too heavy to be shipped as a single package. Only solution was to split the order in two. So I ordered the case on a seperate order. The case was shipped within the hour but the other order hasn't been shipped yet :| (every item was 10+ in stock when I ordered too).

Hopefully it does out tomorrow and I am not waiting ages between getting the case and then getting the second order..

I mainly play CS:S.. The E8400 at 3.8GHz would do a lot more for me than a quad core at 3.2 or whatever.

It wouldnt do a lot more for you as you can run CS:S with a Pen 4 as the source engine isnt that CPU dependent ;)

Well not enough to notice the difference between an OC'd Quad and an OC'd Dual :D

It is massively CPU dependent in my experience... I assume you play the game as you seem quite confident that you are correct..

Play the game at 800 x 600 and then 1920 x 1200.. You will only see a very small drop in the fps. Without over simplifying things, that is as clear as indication you can get that a game is cpu limited.

Also, considering that the game is still using the last gen source engine and has absolutely no multi-threading optimisations that are present in the newer version of the engine that was recently used in TF2 and HL:EP2, the more powerful the single core is, the better.
