So i'm going to get the I5 2500 later this year, so I need a good mother board to go with it.
I do run 6950's in xfire so it needs to be able to support that at a reasonable rate.

Thanks

Hi :)

For that I'd recommend this motherboard, Gigabyte Z77X-D3H. It's the latest Z77 chipset, and supports SLI/CF at 8x/8x :)

A few things, get the i5 2500K - the K version can be overclocked and is certainly worth the extra. Also the new Ivy Bridge CPUs are out soon [29th is the release date I believe], it doesn't sound like you're in a rush but it's worth waiting for that. The same motherboard will still work for Ivy Bridge [in fact the Z77 chipset was released for it]

yeah I was going to wait and see what the Ivy bridges were going to be like before making a decision. Do you think the Ivy bridge will be a better buy then? Also is that the 29th of this month?

Yeah 29th of April, so really not long. It's hard to tell without reviews [which I think might be out on Monday] but chances are either an i5 2500K or the Ivy Bridge equivalent will both still be a good buy

If you have the "LGA1156" socket brackets [which should have come with it] then yes :)
You should be able to get hold of the spare bits if you've lost them/don't have them.

Both are fine for CF, both are good boards.

Personally I'd choose the Gigabyte, because it's cheaper, has all the features you want and Gigabyte have a UK RMA base which is useful :)

Dot get that board. I was gonna but then found it only supports pcie 2.0. So in 5 years time when you wanna slap in cheap Ivy B. in and use pcie3.0 you have to get a nother board. But if you spend few quid more and get Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H. It has pcie 3.0 and few other bits and bobs that make it a great long term upgradeable platform.

I am so good with this. Arek

Where did you get that from!? From Gigabytes website:
The PCIEX16 slot conforms to PCI Express 3.0 standard.

The 3rd slot running at 4x is PCI-E2 only, but that's no big deal!

Umm, you do know ASrock are a budget brand don't you? So i'd regard ASrock as nasty rather than Gigabyte which are a decent mid range brand ;)

Personally i'd get an Asus board :)

Budget or not, I've had Asus boards, yeah they're pretty good, GA, well i tend to avoid them tbh

As for budget, lol the Asrock Z77 i picked up has more features than my old Asus M5A99X board, which cost more, looks better and it's smaller, oh and the Pcie slots are laid out in a better order.

LOL just got online. So someone please pick out out of all the suggestions the board which is the best in terms of lasting a long times and supporting new gpus etc.

Thanks

LOL
