Hi guys and gals of Ocuk forum ;)

Im possibly looking a new lcd monitor but just dont know what to really look for. Ill have a budget of around £450 and possibly up to £700.

I play a lot of online games especially FPS like css, and mmorpg games like guild wars.

Can any 1 recommend to me some lcd monitors that would be useful for my purpose? ;)

My general system spec is in my sig but if u need anymore info just ask :)
Also if u want to think of a monitor that would work well with a general system upgrade I wont mind as im maybe looking to beef up my system later in the future.

Thx for any help in advance

i recommend getting the NEC LCD20WGX2 or Philips 200W6CS as both support 1:1 pixel display so your picture doesnt get streched. Looking at your pc spec i dont think you will able to handle full res in games.

With a £700 budget you can't go far wrong with the good old Dell 2405FPW 24" widescreen :D

However, if you are looking to play some of the latest and most intensive games a full res, you will struggle, a lot. Slightly older stuff like CSS, UT04 and many of the none-FPS games should be fine though.

Oh and if you don't want to use the whole £700 (which I know you do as you wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise :p ) then I recommend the NEC that ultim mentioned.

£700 is overkill. I would get either a Viewsonic 19" 3ms TFT or the Samsung 930bf. Of course, you could go for a widescreen TFT too. Just read about the ones listed on this forum. The Viewsonic gives a crystal and crisp picture.

I dunno, if he can afford it, why not spend £700?, everyone said I went overkill a couple of years ago when I spent £680 on a Samsung 213T ...but im still as thrilled with it now as I was when I bought it, it's been and will continue to be one of the best purchases I have ever made for my computers. A top notch display, really makes the differance when using a computer.

Is it better to have the lowest possible response like 6ms etc or is their like a point where if the response is too quick u lose pic quality etc?

Wats a good response time for a gaming monitor?

Thanks so far for the recommendations :)

Also would u guys recommend these monitors as good upgrades in the sense that i shouldnt have to upgrade my monitor again for a very long time or is their any new monitor technology I should maybe wait for?

Well, i have seen a 3ms pic and for gaming it was ace. No ghosting at all. The DVD pic looked awesome too. I suppose some people see things differently.
