Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone can suggest router which they know can handle large amounts of traffic, generall from torrenting

Currently I'm using the bog standard BT Homehub2, and I find even though I'm not downloading at anything higher than say 700KB/s (even though I have a 10MB atleast line) everything else is greatly hindered to the point where I cannot browse etc. I know this has to do with the traffic and connections to the router. I'd assume switching out the bog standard for something more heavy duty would fix this problem?

Hopefully someone can shed some light.

The client isn't the issue, trust me, i've followed all the guides to setting up the correct amount of connections etc based on line speed.

It comes down to the router it seems...

I think you could be confusing Bytes and bits here. BT don't ship a homehub with any connections capable of 10MBytes/s (>80Mbits/s). 700KBytes/s is about what i'd expect from an average ADSL line.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if a homehub was limiting your torrent potential somewhat, run a Speedtest with no other internet activity and see what that thinks you should be able to get. What is your budget for routers?

Too many connections on the torrent client or is it choking your upload bandwidth?

Also, your 10Mb line should max out at around 1.2MB/s approximately.

How do you know if you're not willing to share settings? ;)

1) When the upload is saturated on ADSL, the download stuffers too. Limit your upload lower than the maximum.

2) You probably have too many open (or half open) connections, these are expensive to maintain in the router's memory.

3) 1mbit = 120KB/s, so 10mbit = 1.2MB/s. This is a theoretical limit, my 1.3mbit upload sync usually peaks at around 110KB/s.

The Asus N56U Black Diamond is a nice piece of kit, extremely high throughput if that's what you're after. :)
