Need scanner for OCR use.

edited price to 100 quid budget, seems to be a few in that price bracket but not sure which one is best to go for. just going to be used for scanning A4 text mainly since its OCR is needed for putting stuff into word or pdf documents.

any recommendations?

It really won't make any difference.
You need decent OCR software, not an uber scanner- You're only working in two colors, relatively low res for OCR usage; High res can make things screwy.
I've got a Mustek Bearpaw of 1998 vintage (Is a pain gettting it to work at all, but it still does :p ), which produces perfect text every time- You want to have a look at Abby Finereader as an OCR package.

Cheers

I'd second that.
I had a go with one of the cheap cannons (Canon CanoScan LiDE 30) that comes with OmniPage SE and that was very good.
The dearer scanners are more for scanning film negatives. That option costs a bit more.
I have an Epson that was dearer than the cannon, and it's not that good a OCR even when using OmniPage.
It's prolly a better photo scanner, and it can do film (35mm etc)

As already stated, it is the OCR software that makes the most difference to the quality of the text that is produced, the best software (that I have found) is either Scansoft Omnipage or Abbyy Finereader Pro.

For a scanner, something from Epson (Epson Perfection V100 Photo) or Canon (Canon CanoScan 4400F). :)
