Im still waiting on the last piece of the puzzel, the cd drive, which is the first thing i ordered out of the lot, stupid 'huge rainforest company'. :rolleyes:
Theres no rush anyway, I wont be touching this build till June 1st - I need to concentrate on my exams :|
I'm going to be installing Windows 7 beta on it that just got released ....

Update!!!!!

Ok, so I built it last night, it took me around 3 hours, what do you think?
I think everything is in now, just need to power on. But before I do this Im just going through benenhausen's 20 page build thread from a couple weeks ago. to check I've not missed anything out....
So Please feel free to tell me what to check before power on;
I know about the PSU on/off switch :)

i powered on, temps are; 44 system temp 34 cpu
hdd recognised
ram memory, i couldnt find my 6gb, just found 1066mhz?
on normal boot screen it asks for my OS disk which im downloading right now....

what else should i check???

my build is finally complete!
windows 7 installed and its GREAT!

1 question though, when the system is on idle... On the task manager I noticed the memory was pretty high at about 1gb. Now I dont know if this is normal for this setup but on my old pc it was only 200mb on idle (it had 1gb ram)
I have 6gb on this new computer, now am I right in thinking if the memory bar goes upto 6gb it will still perform well?
Is that what it means? on idle its currently using about 1gb out of 6gb of ram, with other programs on it shoots upto 6gb, and anymore it lags/slows down?
Or have I got it completely wrong?
Help a noob out

Bon

You'll tend to find that the OS will manage the memory differently based on the amount available.

If you have 512mb available, it will load as little as possible into the RAM and use disk-swapping to store everything it can't fit.

If you have 6GB available, it figures there's no point using the disk swapping and just loads most of it in. It will then only start to use the disk swap when it starts to run out of space.

200mb = 1/5th of 1gb, 1gb = 1/6th of 6gb. Looks to me like it's just using about the same proportion of your memory :-)

As an aside, I have 2gb on this laptop, and with nothing open it tends to use about 500mb - so that pretty much fits :-)

I've got a few problems;
1) I'm getting a few blue screens on start up.
2) Noise from tower, cannot pin point it but its definitely from there, the noise also comes through the speakers nad headphones, unplug these and the same noise still comes from tower. Its a very faint squeel, high and low pitch, can be heard from across the room, just.

What should I try to do?
Im about to update BIOS as someone suggested it while searching through google...

EDIT: should I download BIOS straight from website or use the disk that came with MOBO?
