Hi I have 2x480gtx and I'd love to run the fan on the top one a bit lower by buying a board where I have

Card
Card Cooler
SPACE
Card
Card Cooler
Space
OLD PCI SLOT soundcard

Maybe with the option of going 3way due to how cheap 480gtxs are now and how rubbish the framerates in the witcher 2 are when you put ubersampling on.

What the heck board would I need to achieve this for socket 1366 or does it not exist?

The PCI slot for sound card is the spanner in the works.

The Rampage Extreme III has all the16x slots that you need for Tri-SLi but you are going to have to put your PCI sound card just above the bottom (third) graphic card.

But think of this before you go out and buy another 480 and a new motherboard. In three or four months time a new enthusiast chipset and CPU range will be released. If you are not planing on upgrading again soon; then ignore this comment please.

I've tried to search something similar for 1366, but you've got something harder to find :)

If Asus Rampage III Extreme is not good, maybe try this:

P.S.

I forgot to mention - some motherboards allow users to set up bandwidth for each PCIe slot, so you might change in BIOS PCIEx16_2 to PCIEx16_3.. or in other words - put second card to third slot and modify BIOS settings to make them work as x16 x16.

The PCI slot he wants for his audio is still located between the bottom and second graphic card with both those boards. The same as the RE3 mate. Like you I just do not know of a board that offers the placement OP wants.

Personally I would not bother buying a board for a 4 year old chipset right now but...
