I have never actually known the whole story about power supplies, i just think the more watts the better and the more components it can support

Now with a new system in the works i need to decide upon a PSU, this time round im going all out with high performing components, with a quad core cpu, a NVidia 8800 GTX to take into mind im wondering what psu to go with out of:

Corsair HX 520W or the Corsair HX 620W its like a £25 difference, what i want to know is, is it worth it? the extra 100W

520W

620W

General rule appears to be unless you want SLI/crossfire or an insane number of hard disks etc you would be fine with 520W.

Power supplies do generally lose power output over the years etc but 520W should be easily enough to last you.

However I have to make the same decision for my new PC and I’m going to pay the extra £25 so that I have more chance of being able to keep it in a few years. I also may go crazy and go SLI so seems worth £25.

Why not get a dual core now and wait for quads to drop in price?
