Need Some Advice On Cooling My Processor!

Hi Guys,

I currently have the Overclockers Aplus Twin Engine Gaming Case, it has two 22cm intake fans, one at the front, and the other on the side blowing directly onto the motherboard.

My current cpu cooler is the 120mm aqua gate mini (water-cooler), my processor is the AMD 6000+ over-clocked by 300mhz, my constant temperature of my processor is around 44-45 degrees, even when it was unclocked it remained the same, voltage is currently set to 1.42.

I guess my question is, is it possible to keep it cooler? I know I can get a water cooling kit, but just at the moment I do not think I need it, plus the cost is fairly substantial.

Would I notice the benefit of obtaining a decent cpu air cooler, along with a 120mm rear exhaust fan (which is currently what i have, although it is contacted to the aqua gate).

Any advice welcome

what do you mean by benefit?

If it's in terms of overclcoking the cpu further, you need to push it a bit harder at the moment. You need to find the limit that the volts you need to use are too much for your current cooling solution. Then you can assess if you want to spend the extra on a cooler to try and go further.

If you don't want to clock any further then the only benefit I can think of is reduced noise that could be offered by a non-stock cooler.

Thanks for the reply.

I should have been more clear, under load the cpu can get up to around 60 degrees, which I have been led to believe is a little too high. As mentioned, before I overclocked the cpu it reached the same temps as being overclocked.

I guess i think the processor could / should be cooler, even if it was not overclocked.

Cheers,
Lea

personally, 60 deg is about as high as I would like to see it.

I'm a bit out of touch with air coolers but you should be able to shave 10 deg or so by moving to a better combination. I think tuniq tower, scthe ninja, arctic freezer pro will offer good performance but I'm sure someone will drop in with better air cooling knowlendge than I.

You could water cool but that is going to set you back around £200 for a decent'ish system and maybe more than you want to spend and more messing about than you would like for maybe 15-20 degrees off your load temp. it would allow you to use more volts however and maintain those temps than a good air cooler so you could get a better overclock. For the same amount of money you could probably go to a faster core2 system.

It seems that for some reason the aqua mini is not that great for cooling purposes. My previous processor 5000+ reached the same temperature as my current cpu.

I guess the question is why is my processor running at them temps, without being overclocked (i.e reaching sometimes 60 degrees?)

Would I be able to get it cooler with a better / more advanced cpu cooler?

Thanks,
Lea

i'm not familiar with your cooler model but you should be below 60 degrees when you aren't overclocked.

did you mount the current cooler or did it come pre-installed? you could try and re-seat it or just try the standard hsf that came with the chip first?
