Hi I have gtx 680 2gb version I was planing to get another one to run them in sli for games like bd4 and the new gta if it comes out on pc. I read somewhere in the Internet that the recommended VRAM for bf4 is 3gb.

So my question is if you where in my shoes would you's sell my current 680 and buy a second hand 690 4gb version or buy another 680 and hope for the best?

When I'm playing my games I like to have everything on max settings including stuff like AA.

I would say buy another 680 for SLI. 2gb will run the game BF4. All this talk about 2gb not being enough is scare tactics atm IMHO. We'll see for sure very shortly. they said the same thing about bf3 and it was all bull****

A 690 only has 2gb vram - it doesn't get added together.

What res do you use?

^^ Yup, either another 680, or the 780 if you can afford one (wish i could tbh) or wait out on the next gen amd cards. BUT i dont think you'll have a problem at all playing bf4 on high with one 680. As said already its more than likely bs to help sell the next gen amd gpus. Many will fall for it..... not me :D

If you are worried about the VRAM limit which I don't think youshould be then a 780 would be a better option than a 690 as already highlighted by whyscotty (4GB is split between the two 680s so it's still only effectively 2GB)

I thought that if I have two 680's then only the first cards VRAM would be used? And if I had a 690 it would have 4gb of VRAM for both gpu's to use?

If you can afford to just sell the 680 and get a 780 or wait for AMD announcement on the 25th. BF4 isn't released till October so no point rushing to a decision.

4GB for both GPU's, so effectively 2GB. I wouldn't advise getting a 690 since it is easier to just get another 680 which is basically the same. You can always hold out and see what the AMD offerings are like

I would take the BF4 hardware recommendations with a pinch of salt, especially if your gaming at 1080p. My gtx 570 handles bf3 just fine with 1.25gb vram at 1080, so I doubot bf4 will suddenly need 3gb. In all honesty my guess is that that 3GB recommendation is up there to make people think they need new gpus, more specifically the new AMD 9907 gpu? Seems coincidental.

Anyway if your at 1080p id keep that 680, if your at 1440p id go 7970 or wait for 9970.
