Current system is X2 4200+ @2.7 GHz, 2GB Ram and X1950 Pro 512mb.

I recently invested in a 22" Dell 1680x1050 Widescreen monitor and I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card.

I'm wondering what my best options are as the R600 cards from ATI are imminent. Without any info on these cards it's hard to tell what to do.

Are the r600's likely to be able to outperform the gtx and are they likely to run cooler.

I'm prepared to hold off buying a GTX if the R600 is likely to give similar performance for a similar price point if they're likely to run cooler.

Or should I just hit the buy button on a GTX and be done with it ;)

the ones released on monday wont beat a gtx (i think) they are the 2900xt's. the 2900xtx's are getting released at the end of may i think and hopefully they will beat the gtx's and ultras :)

Wait till Monday when the R600's are released as its only a couple of days, the rumours are that they are only around GTS performance, or slightly better, aint nowhere near the GTX in performance, but as said all thats rumours, no one knows for sure until its released on Monday, so you may as well hold off till then and see, as their may be some price drops to. :)

ofc this is all only DX9 performance... maybe they have Nvidia beat on DX10 since its 2nd gen dx10 card ;) well at least id like to think. I think my old 8mg Rage Pro has some kind of radeonite stone that makes me weaker and more susceptable to being an ATI fan. That and the fact i cant see how such a huge company like nvidia be so pants at programming drivers. its not hard cant handle it hire someone or more people that can.
