Hi,

I can't really upgrade my current Gaming PC without replacing most components so I have decided to start afresh and have £1000ish budget to buy a whole new PC this weekend before I spend my money on other stuff :) like food/drink.

The requirements are:
(i) Quiet.
(ii) Future Proof - plays all current/future games on max settings and is easily upgradable.
(iii) Best bang for buck - overclock cheap cpu/ram to equal performance of more expensive components.
(iv) Some bragging rights ;) - One 7950 GX2 to start with and go quad sli in future.
(v) Wifi in M/B or enough room in PC for wifi card.
(vi) FireWire on M/B or enough room in PC for wifi card - needed for getting films off my camera.

So far at this site (after looking through the forums) I have the following on my list:
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz
E6400
Barracuda 7200.10 320GB
Hiper 580W
Thermaltake Soprano
So far: £511.95

Still need to decide on M/B, gpu card and have some general questions:
(i) What oc sli M/B do you recommend? Giga DS3 seems good but don't support sli. Would it work with the 7950? If so, should I just go for this M/B for now and wait for better ones to appear next year when I go sli?
(ii) Would the Hiper PSU be enough for Quad Sli in future?
(iii) If the M/B don't have firewire/wifi would two gfx cards cover the required slots for firewire/wifi cards?
(iv) Will all my componets run well together and have required cables? Have I missed anything off except DVD and TFT.
(v) Will this be fairly quiet?

Your help and wisdom is much appreciated.

I specced that system earlier for someone. Has everything you need.

Yes go for it now(its in the spec above) then when better sli mobo's come out for conroe you can sell it.

(ii) Would the Hiper PSU be enough for Quad Sli in future?

NO!, if you take the raptor out of the spec above you will have more than enough money to get 600W + PSU and that will be able to handle Quad SLI.

(iii) If the M/B don't have firewire/wifi would two gfx cards cover the required slots for firewire/wifi cards?

NO

(v) Will this be fairly quiet?

Yes if you buy the right coolers(i.e cpu and vga coolers) and also the right fans.

Yes, I saw your previous spec.

Thanks for quick reply. I will go for the DS3, keep the packaging and sell it next year when I get a new M/B.

Cheers,

The DS3 is pretty nice and works well with the Geil ram nd 6400 Conreo (i got them yesterday) - it will work fine with a single 7950 but as you know not SLi.

I

Yep. I have gone for e6400, ds3, geil & 7950.

Just ordered from here but got "Barclays Verified by Visa" issues and it wouldn't authorise my card :(. Will have to call Barclays when they open their help lines when they are next at work... where is this 24h banking? Time to switch banks :)
