Need some advice upgrading my P4

Hey

All the bits arrived today. Apart from graphics as that was ordered today. Managed to bang it all together with win 7 64 bit and arch linux 64bit on two partitions.

I even overclocked it to 3.0ghz. Sits at 35 idle and 65 under pressure with prime95 running for 20 mins.

Very happy with the results with video conversion :)

I was a bit shocked that win7 uses 800meg of ram when its idle out of my 4 gig . My arch install with Gnome uses 120meg :)

Thanks again guys

Something just caught my eye when reading this.

I left prime 95 running today after my OC for 4 hours, came back and it was running at 42C.

If I play BFBC2 for 20 mins it gets to 52C, so that's a difference of 10C from prime to an intensive game. Probably due to the whole case heating up once my GPU starts getting hot.

In your case it'd push you over the recommended barrier for your CPU which I believe is 71C, plus ambient temps are average as summer has not yet hit.

Play an intensive game, see what temps you get :)

Hi

The temps I had were before I dropped voltage from something like 1.34 (auto) to something like 1.27.

I now idle around 33 and max temps are 58. ME2 and Shift 2 sits at about 45-50. Prime95 also sits at around 55-59. These are just rough temps but these are from the top of my head, I have been watching them very close the past week lol. But yeah dropping the voltage from auto to a manual setting dropped my temps big time.

Cheers
