Need some advice - webcam

Has anybody fit a webcam to a computer before to watch certain goings on outside? , someone keeps kicking holes in our fence up front between 12 and 4 in the morning. I say its this time because i'm up at 5 and notice it being kicked in ! . What i want to do is have a webcam attached to the computer and keep an eye outside and record between those hrs , is this possible?

To it being possible that is. I did it on my Mac although I just started it recording when I went to bed.
