I currently have a p4 2.8ghz and 1gb of ram. My gfx is an old radeon 9500pro 256mb which served me well. The only game i play is world of warcraft and usually some new games that come out. In graphic intense areas my radeon borks out to a staggering 4-5fps which is really annoying me. I have seen in this week only the x1600pro 512 and the 7600GS 512mb. The two of them are agp and quite fit my budged since i cannot spend money right now for a whole conroe/ati,nvidia setup.

Which card would suit my needs for stable fps in world of warcraft? budget 120 pounds.
Also adding 1gb ram to the latter 2.8ghz cpu would help games ?

Thanks for the great forums :)

Let me start with saying that you dont really get any benefit from the 512MB of ram over 256MB of ram, especially on these lower end cards.

Thus i would get a quicker card with 256MB ram than a slwoer one with 512MB ram.

My recommendation would actually be ...PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - OEM (GX-050-PC)
Price: £99.95 (£117.44 Including VAT at 17.5%). Its a new card in the clearance section though.. (follow the link) ...

However of the two above cards you mentioned the 7600GS is faster than the X1600pro.

Also you might want to get a cpu cooler and overclock your CPU a bit....a 2.8ghz p4 is fairly dated...although plenty sufficient for WOW

Thanks for the replies guys :)

I have made a shortlist of 3 cards after reading some reviews which include
Sapphire ATI Radeon X800GTO 256MB DVI/ VGA/ TV-out AGP Video Card
ATI Radeon X850 Pro 256MB DVI/ VIVO AGP Video Card
Leadtek nVidia GeForce 7600GT 256MB DVI/ HDTV AGP Video Card

Which one of the cards is latest? I would assume the 7600GT since its price is much higher than the ATI models. Also the price difference between x800gto and x850pro is minimal but what about difference in game performance?

the 7600GT is the fastest, the X850pro offers performance approx 3/4 of that & the X800GTO is not too far off that.
