Hi All,

Going to be kitting out a media room shortly.

I intend to run a media centre utilising a ATI 4890 with HDMI doing AV and an OPTICAL out for sound.

Im after a sub £400 5.1 system (Ideally) that will take HDMI and Opt input.

All the systems ive seen recently include a bluray player which i dont need as i have that built into the media centre.

I had looked at the ONKYO ONKHTX22HD with the 5.1 option pack but can anyone reccommend me any others please.?

C O M E T has an Onkyo AV receiver & 5.1 speaker package called the AV380 or similar - £300. That's very good value. It has all the HD Audio decoding modes for Blu-ray.

R I C H E R S O U N D S does Onkyo and a few other brands of AV receiver. You can get 5.1 speaker packages to go with the amps from a starter price of £79.

As with most things in life, the more you spend the better things become. A £79 speaker kit won't be the same quality as a £200 speaker kit, but I guess you're sensible enough to realise that.

The onkyo system you mention is pretty decent for the price. I however purchased a neat little system for about £500 recently.

Q acoustics 1010i 5.1 package for £300 (from RS); these speakers are great - decent quality sound and a really good sub (for its size) - it packs a lot of punch and i like the matt black looks. really good value for money

Onkyo 308 (£220 from RS) - the onkyo 507s are difficult to find now brand new but the 308 isnt bad for the price - lots of flexibility with a decent amount of extra connections for all your other av equipment.

A little over budget but better quality IMO - alternatively you could try second hand. Others here are more knowledgeable than me on here but its worth a look :)

Cool thanks for the input will check them out, could stretch to £500 i spose if i could get speakers and amp from same place.
