Im sorry to bother you all, i normaly only appear in the pc gaming section xD.

Anyhoo im looking to get a camera which is capable of nice pics of the night sky, flying birds (my dad is a game keeper so would be nice to capture some images of flying pheasents), fireworks etc. Problem is i didnt know the cameras everyone recommends would cost me so much! My budget would appear to be very low at £100-£150 and as im aware that appears to rule out D/SLR cameras but ive been looking at bridged cameras.

Fujifilm FinePix S2750 12MP Digital Bridge Camera.
GE HZ1500 16MP Digital Bridge Camera.
Nikon COOLPIX L120 14MP Digital Bridge Camera.
Fujifilm FinePix S2950 14MP Digital Bridge Camera.
Fujifilm FinePix S3300 14MP Digital Bridge Camera.

Are the ones i have been looking at but if i am honest all the information i find is very overwhelming for me as a complete beginner! Any advice on what camera would be best would appreciated! Recommended cameras would also be appreciated aslong it doesnt go about £150 as that is my limit! it is coming up to xmas afterall! hehe.

All i can say is that, having owned and used a bridge camera before a DSLR, i find them to be very poor quality wise. This is probably down to the huge zoom they have on most bridge cameras, and if your going for a camera without much / any zoom then compacts, imo, give better quality (hell, the iPhone 4s gives better quality).

Argh im so confused, i really thought they were in between DSLR and compacts for quality! seems more like a scam if they are not as good! If anyone could recommend a camera which is capable of the things i have stated above below £150 id love you forever! ive been looking for days but im just overwhelmed and by the looks of it i still dont know what im looking at :(. I would have had a dslr from somewhere like pc world but they dont offer the ten month payment plan anymore plus i read somewhere if im a beginner i should avoid dslr's?

If you want birds in flight that are reliably in focus then you need either a DSLR or a recent mirrorless camera, I've yet to see a compact with a good enough autofocus system for that, let alone at that price point. If you want photos of the night sky then you'll probably want fully manual controls too.

dont whatever you do buy any of the fuji S bridge cameras. I just made the jump from a bridge to DSLR the difference is massive. I found the fuji to be very slow for focusing, you will also get very noisey photos at higher iso if your taking nights shots.

I might get an argos card and buy the Nikon D3000 from there and pay it off in 6 months. Is the Nikon D3000 worth the price tag of £329.99? it sounds like it would do what i want it to but again so many reviews are misleading.

To be honest, the Nikon D300 was a nice camera but it is very old technology now and even in its prime would not do very well at birds in flight. WHat is more you need t budget for all the extzras. You will need a lens like the Nikon 55-300mm to have any hope of getting birds in flight, or any bird to fill the frame. For nightime and fireworks you will need a reasonable tripod, if oyu want to photograsph people indoors with low light then you really need an external flash to get big improvements above a point and shoot.

I think you should think carefully about your budget, what you realy want out of a camera and what you want to be able to shoot. I think 2nd hand is the best option on your budget.

Would eb good to play with a friends camera or spend a lot of time in a camera shop to see what you get and the limitation iof low end DLRs or bridge cameras.
