Hi all,

Wanting to build a new rig as my q6600,asus maximus formula and ballistic ram just isn't cutting it anymore. My budget is around £1600, although the cheaper the better :-). TBH Im looking for an all-purpose rig, but not sure how far to go in price with this socket conundurum.

Hope someone can help as comparing specs is doing me in.

Cheers

Is it just a gaming rig? Or do you heavily uses video editing programmes or CAD?

If its just gaming the i5 3570k would be perfect. 32gb of ram is a lot, 16gb will fulfil any need.

The gtx 680s are the most powerful card, though the gtx 670 offer much much better 'bang for buck'. Though the 7950's come in very similar for the price.

Things need to be clear before we spec anything.

Do you:

- need monitor, keyboard, mouse and os?
- Do you prefer liquid cooling or air?
- Will you be doing any high end photo editing or video editing?

I just saw this lonely post and thought I would quickly throw it together. Without any information on usage etc I just assumed you wanted a slick little beast at/above the budget =P

Of course, when it comes to getting your performance/money ratio then your better to stick to 16gb ram and go to AMD for the graphics card :) Its my brand preference and styling that makes me usually blow the budget :(

I'll wait for the OP to reply on what the usage of the system will be before adding my own spec to the list ;)
