Hello everyone, :D

Basically I am building a whole new gaming rig.

i7-920 chip I'm going to overclock to 4.0GHz
1200w BFG Modular PSU
6GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600 RAM
1TB Seagate Hard Drive
ASUS Rampage Extreme II motherboard
Sony Blu-ray ROM
Coolermaster Cosmos 'S' case

My chip is getting cooled by a triple radiator and an 18w pump, depending on what graphics card I get I will be getting a GPU water block to cool that also.

Now in my old gaming rig I am using the 9800GTX+ card but I'm after something more powerful.

Although mainly the pc will be used for Counter-Strike: Source, which I'm aware I don't need this rig for, I also play other games like L4D2, TF2, COD4 and the new modern warfare 2 when it comes out :D.

I prefer Nvidia cards over ATI just out of preference, but I'm aware of the benchmarks of the 5850 and the 5870, I've been trying to get hold of a 5870 for two weeks nearly and It's just sold out everywhere!

Basically I'm after a really good graphics card that's going to be able to tear through any game i play with my new setup, is it worth paying the money for the 5870? Shall i just get the 5850 and put up with the 100MHz less or is the 295 a competitive card, I know the 300 is out shortly but in all honesty I just want to get my new system up and running, and don't want to wait much longer :D I'm sure you can understand!

Any help and opinions would be great :D thanks very much !

I would go for the 5870 myself.
You will have to wait for it but the wait will be worth it.
I've got one and I am very very happy with it. :D

If you don't mind me asking what games do you play with it :D ?

Like Counter-Strike: Source, COD4 :D ? If so what sort of FPS do you get on those games and do you notice a real difference :D

The only noticeable difference i can see between the 5850 and the 5870 however is the core clock, its about 100MHz less on the 5850, but with a GPU water block I could overclock it to that of the 5870 anyways, is there any other plus for me to spend an extra 100 pounds nearly to get the 5870 :D ?

Also, will there be a noticeable worth difference of running crossfire with either two 5850's or two 5870's, or is it not really worth it :D

any advice ?
