Hi folks i need a little advice on what to do regarding ebay. I sold a samsung D900i phone on ebay. It sold for £41. The buyer has no feedback at all, he only registered a few days ago and he's paid the money into my bank account. The money has cleared so im ready to send the phone. Im a little concerned because whenever i sell a phone on ebay, i always get ebay members with no feedback who registered just a few days ago bidding on my stuff. Just to be safe i've removed their bids because they are prob scamsters but this time i was away for a few days and never got chance to remove his bid. What i want to know is, now the money has cleared in my bank, can he get the money back off me somehow? Im going to send the phone recorded signed for via royal mail.

Thanks

He could just be a new user it does happen. :D

I would think if the user is based in the uk and has paided cash or via pay pal you should be ok. Unless of course the phone is faulty or the user say it is then pay pal will remove the money from your account quicker then a fat man eating pie. If hes paided into your pal pay move the money into your bank account. Also you can email pay pal just to be sure see what they say.

as far as i know (and i work in payments) you can't claw back money from a bank transfer - its a one way process so you should be totally fine. If your sending signed for as well you should be totally fine :)

People have to start on eBay somewhere...

I have the exact same worry except the opposite way round! I have 0 feedback, never used ebay before this week, and am bidding on an item. Thing is how can you get feedback without buying or selling? As Siliconslave says people need to start somewhere.

I know what your all saying about having to start somewhere, but i ALWAYS attract zero feedback buyers ONLY on mobile phones that i sell. If i sell anything else, i get buyers with more feedback. My missis used to sell loads of phones and most of them were foreign scamsters who registered on the same day just to buy the phone your selling.

As long as i know he can't claw the cash back, im happy with that. As for paypal, i stopped using that years ago. I know i'll attract more buyers if i did accept it, but im 10 times more likely to get screwed if i do!

Thanks for the advice folks

if it's been a bank transfer I can't see how he could take the money out your account again, seems safe enough... unless he's using someone elses bank account illegally or something along those lines

Yeah pay pal suck I'm surprise they are allowed to get away with as much as they do really.

*Sigh*
So why do Paypal suck then?
Because I can tell you now - if you are a seller and you follow the golden rules:

1. Only send to somebody with a verified PayPal address
2. Use a trackable delivery service (RM Special Delivery, DHL, etc)

Then you won't lose any dispute raised against you.

So why do they suck??

Have you seen the price of phones in Cont; europe ,they aren't locked and cost a fortune. 400-500€ for the top models.

I'm not surprised at people bidding for them.

because if someone ignores the rules and gets burned then its blatantly PayPal's fault... nothing to do with the people trying to scam you, or the fact that you weren't being safe etc etc

Just had the zero feedback thing happen again after selling a nokia n73. I specify in my listing, anyone who had less than 15+ feedback to contact me first. Loads of them dont listen and bid away, so i remove the bids and block them.

Because even if you follow their rules - Paypal still side with the scammers.

My best friend followed the rules to the letter and got stung for £100 of PS3 games - it was a verified address and he used RMSD. The transaction still got reversed, the little twerp still got away with the money, and the honest buyer still ended up out of pocket.

I hope Paypal go bust - they're no better than the thieves they always side with.
