Hi Guys,

Firstly thanks for reading my post and making any suggestions ;-)

I am currently running an Abit Pro with a Q6600, a 8800 GTX and 4GB of OCZ ram (2 x 2GB) - and I am now looking to upgrade.

Firstly I play games, that is the main use of my PC and I play at a res of 1920 x 1200 so need a fairly meaty graphics card to run with some AA etc.

Therefore I would like some suggestions on upgrading, on whether in fact I just need to upgrade certain parts (i.e.the graphics card?)

My Q6600 is overclocked and stable at 3.6Ghz - but I only want to upgrade if I will notice a difference in performance.

I like to play all the modern games and have already pre-ordered some of the games being released later this year that would perhaps benefit from an upgrade.

I have not got set budget, but cannot afford to buy say the best / most expensive product (i.e a graphics card for £300 is fine, and a processor for say £150-200 is equally fine)..

Hopefully you guys can shed some light on which products offer the best price / performance ;-)

Hi Meloco- thanks for the reply, is there any reason as to why I should wait?I was under the impression that there was never a good time to upgrade? :-)

Are there new products coming to the market soon?

The only thing really you could update is your cpu to a:

http://overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-203-IN

and gfx to:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-018-PV

and from what I've read there will be better tech in the next coming months/end of the year. So unless you can sell of your old tech, in which case update. But if you can't then I would wait as your cpu is future proof already(no games take advantage of quad core cpu's yet). Graphics wise that card would do you some good over the card you have atm, but a few graphics charts, show that the nvidia GX card compared to ATI's 4870 has a minimal performance gain at higher res'. So maybe updating to a 4870 is a better option.

You would be wasting your money buying a processor. That cpu should be enough for anything short of a 4870X2. A 280 Nvidia gfx card would probably suit you and would be worth upgrading from an 8800.

Either a gtx 280 of 4870 card would benifit you most. Your cpu will do you fine. The next update for your cpu would probably be nehalem!

Your system spec is powerful. Possibly update your GTX to the 280 if you really feel the need to max out all the settings on your resolution.

Hey guys, thanks so much for the info, I think I will just update my graphic card for now, although people have suggested two types - which one would better suit my needs for gaming? the nvidia gtx 280 or the 4870?

Cheers guys :-)

if you can stretch for the money/or easily :p get the GtX 280, if you want to save a little cash get the 4870 1gb (even bigger than 512mb apparently isn't that much worthit).
