Hi guys,

I've been having problems with what i think is my graphics card, so i'm going to be returning it for tests etc which can take up to 28 days... So i'm looking at a possible replacement/upgrade.

My specs are:
Intel i7 4790k
Asus Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
x2 AOC 24" Widescreen 144Hz 1ms Gaming LED Monitor
Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150)
EVGA SuperNova G2 850W
NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case.

So i'm not sure whats my best bet, rx 480? Xfire 480's? Gtx 1070? Or just stop being impatient and wait for mine to hopefully be repaired
Any advice would be great. Thanks.

What makes you think there's something wrong with your GPU? We can probably fix your problem here.

What kind of performance are you looking for? I notice you told us the size of your screens (irrelevant) but didn't tell us the resolution (very relevant).

For high framerates at 1440P you should really be looking at a 1070. If your screen is only 1080P you can get away with a 1060 or a 480, though some games, like the new Hitman, will still suffer significant drops below 60FPS with certain settings, in some parts, with that level of hardware.

If you have a 4K monitor you need at least a 1080. Ideally more if you want to push well past 60FPS with that high refresh screen you have.

So what problem are you having? Why do you think there's something wrong with your GPU?

The problem i'm having is a BSOD(Thread stuck in device driver) which supposedly is either to do with the video drivers or the card itself. I've tried every solution i can find with no joy. I'm just waiting on RMA details from OC. And sorry i should have mentioned that the screens are full HD. I would like to upgrade at some point but dont think it will be any time soon.

Tried wiping the driver first, that would be the first step. If you want to upgrade the only way to go is GTX 1070, the RX 480 is on par or just beats a R9 290.

What res monitor? If it's 1080p you want a RX480, if 1440p you want gtx1070 and if it's 4k you'll want a gtx1080...

With the 144 refresh rate you might want gtx1080 whatever res to be fair.

Yeah, i've done a driver wipe with no luck. Both monitors are 1080p so i'm guessing the 1080 would be a bit overkill? So its looking like a 1070? Any recommendations on which one?

Thanks for the replies guys.

Decent starting price the palit gamerock, zotac has 5 year warranty, evga has brilliant returns policy and gigabyte come with a free 700w psu. Could sell it .

Thanks for all the replies guys, i've gone for the Gigabyte g1 gaming 1070. Hopefully should keep me going for a while. I've also looked at maybe upgrading my ram to 16gb. I'm currently using 2x4gb kingston hyperX PC3 2400MHz, any recommendations on a worthy upgrade?

Thanks again for all your help.
