i have an audigy 2 Plat ex hooked up to a 5.1 AV receiver & some 2.1 speakers... i need a decent cheap pair of headphone with excellent bass response and high volumes.

i live in a crappy house where i CANNOT play music with ANY bass or i get written complaints from the council from a **** next door.

i know you get what you pay for but i need something with DECENT LOUD BASS for Dance and trance music mostly.

2nd. is there any difference between 3.5mm and the 1/4inch jacks as to quality???

thanks in advance.

What sort of budget are you looking at?

Are your speakers isolated from the floor btw? Especially if they're upstairs it can help prevent the sound reaching the neighbours.

There is no difference in SQ between 3.5mm and 6.3mm per se. But the more "serious" cans tend to use the 6.3mm jack.

You said cheap, so I'll point you to the Koss Porta Pro. The SportaPro is similar with slightly stronger bass. I believe those are sub £30. Extreme bang for buck. Cheaper and similar is the Koss KSC-75. You may need to bend the clip to get a tighter fit though, they may not be as bassy because they don't clamp on your ears as much. They are easy to drive, meaning that you can play them at hearing damaging level straight out of the sound card (not recommended, but it's your hearing at stake). That said, the Koss are open cans. If you need closed cans, then you are pretty much stuck with the Senn PX200 at that price range. Another option for open can are the Senn PX100. I prefer the Koss line myself, but they are competitive with each other (sound wise, it comes down to personal preference - other factor might include the Senn brand vs the Koss Lifetime warranty).

Moving up the chain (and cost) is the Beyer DT770 and the Audio-Technica A-500/900. They are all quality closed cans but the later needs to be imported AFAIK. On the other hand, the A500/900 are both considered more source friendly than the Beyer DT770, meaning that they should sound better out of your A2ZS Plat. No, the receiver does not count as a "dedicated amp".
