I've been trying to find a perfect portable media device for watching video's, listening to music and storing data. However I can't seem to find a device that fits my needs.

I've been comparing netbooks, laptops and tablets and I can't find something that I want.

Laptops are too big for my use and most have poor battery lifes, however they are faster than a lot of desktops and have HDMI outputs and a full size keyboard. The price is a bit expensive though for what I want. I've seen i5 laptops go for around £400.

Netbooks are the perfect size and have good battery lifes, however they don't have big hard drives and most don't have a HDMI port, and most come with a low quality 1024 x 600 ( WSVGA ) screen which won't play 720p to their full extent and a lot of netbooks can't play 1080p without stuttering. The main netbook I was looking at was the Acer Aspire One D255 N550 Dual Core for £200. I was then looking to add another 1GB DDR3 memory for £18 and a 750GB hard drive for £50 which would cost me about £270 altogether.

Tablets have good screens and battery lifes, are easy to use and very cheap (I was looking at the Advent Vega for £200). However they don't have large memory which is no good since I have almost 700GB worth of films. But I think it's possible to watch films off my home network? They also have HDMI ports.

Sorry for the long post, I just want some help finding the perfect device. My price range is around £300 I guess. It needs to have a good screen and capable of watching at least 720p films and have a good battery life and a HDMI port unless there is a device that can convert a VGA into HDMI.

Would welcome any advice or suggestions please, cheers :p

A fusion based netbook?

£250 will get a 10" acer 522 (c-50), still has HD resolution, £299 will get you the 11" lenovo but it has a 1.6 e-350.

Both will run 1080p with ease even via flash, have hdmi, have hd screens, have excellent battery, and are cheap!

I didn't even think about looking into the AMD fusion netbooks, I've read they are a lot more powerful than the Atom CPU's and play HD without a problem, even 1080p, and they all have HDMI and HD screens?

Thanks a lot mate, I'll definitely look into this!

Any other suggestions are welcome!
