so after playing crysis3 I've realised my gpu is getting hammered.

I play eyefinity x3 24 inch 1900x1200.
currently I have a 6990.

here's the choice.

ati 7990 - £879 with block fitted by ocuk
x2 7970 @£804 with block fitted by ocuk

or x2 7950 apx £500 + 2 blocks about £140 = £640

I can fit the blocks myself and could save some cash that way

I intend to sell the game vouchers so could reduce the 7990 cost by about £35 & the 7970/7950 by about £70

I would also sell my 6990@ say apx £300.

so this is how it pans out

7990 = £544 or £450 if I fit the blocks
7970xfire = £430 or £380 if I fit blocks
7950xfire = £270

so is the 7970 really that much better? I know you can o'c it to 7970 speeds, but I could also o'c the 7970.

as much as I'd like the 7990 I don't think I can justify it at the additional cost.

so erm help, what would you do? I've read benchmarks and reviews till I'm cross eyed

If you are not fussed about benchmarks and just want to game, I would go with the 7950's. The 7970's will be quicker but can you justify the extra cost for 2 maybe 3 extra fps in Crysis 3?

If money isn't an issue, I would probably be in the minority and say get a 7990. I had an old 6990 like you too and if 7990's existed when I got my 7970's , I would have got one of those instead. I know chances are you might OC two 7970's more and for a little less money. 7990's are a lot rarer and you could down the line go tri or quadfire too. I just like the idea of having one crazy card and the 7990 seems to fit that bill. Otherwise I would say go for 7970 in x-fire, they have been cracking cards for me .

hmm I've thought exactly the same as both of you. I'd like to get three 27inch screens in the future so maybe 7970's would be better. the clock speed on these seems to be higher then the 7990 as well
