Hello, I have just come for some help on overclocking my E6600, it's in a Gigabyte DQ6 Mobo, XMS2 6400C5 , and its being operated by a big fat noob!

I changed my fsb from 266 to 271 and kept the volts and multiplier (9) the same. I get into windows and run orthos (combined test), but i get an error within 10 seconds :S At stcck settings orthos doesnt come up with any errors. Surely this cant be happening ALREADY?! I know some people will say if you arent sure what you are doing, dont do it. But im reluctant to do this as i want to learn as much as i can!

I tried upping the volts a bit and it makes no difference. I have tried reducing the RAM frequency but it only goes down in steps (from 800 to 600mhz) and it wont get into windows.

Anyone got some advice for me? Iv been reading the forums but nothing seems to help me! My aim is to reach 3ghz, help me reach it! Cheers :)

Ill give it a shot :)

I said earlier i upped the volts a bit, not sure if it was enough (1.325 to 1.37), how much are we talking about here?

Ta :)
not much?
check the DS3 overclocking thread for ideas

Okies i got the fsb to 271 (X9) stable, but cant get it @ 176 stable. Iv upped the volts several times now to no avail :( Its now at 1.36250 (stock 1.325)

Any ideas? Iv tried lowering the ram multiplier but the system just crashes when it tries to load windows.

ok so atm you've got 271x9 (2439) at 1.36v yeah?
what kinda temps are you getting atm?
is your ram crapping out on you? try loosening the timings on it.

Yes that is correct, with coretemp i am getting 55 under full load, i have a zalman 9500 put on with as5.

I will see if i can learn about ram timings, and give that a shot. When you say loosen them, generally which values am i looking to change? Thank you for your input :)

that core temps a bit high for my liking tbh, but I've not overclocked core duos yet
that under 100% load?

Yes the temps were recorded with coretemp after 15 minutes with orthos. Speedfan recorded a max of 47.

It seems high to me too, with coretemp at stock settings it barely went past 40 @ full load. Maybe its because of the extra volts im putting through?
