Hi all, looking to do a new build. Ive built a few pc's myself before so that is not a problem, last build I did was over a year ago and technology has changed so much since then, last build was ATI 5850, Gigabyte EP45-T Extreme, Q9800 (i think, well it did 4.2ghz overclock easy), DDR3 Ripjaw and some others cant remember.

Anyway, I still have on me the following:

NZXT Guardian 921 Tower
TRUE 120 Heatsink
500GB + 250GB Hard Drive
DVD Multi Writer/Reader

So I can save cash on those.

Anyway, Im looking to build a fairly decent gaming pc with overclocking abilities as always :D Got a budget of around £450-£500 ish. Because I already have a TRUE 120 i think I should go with LGA775 socket, but do I save money this way, or will it be cheaper going i5 or something with different motherboard, after all 775 socket is pretty old now right?

Basically, £450-£500 ish on a gaming PC, graphics card does not have to be world class as I can pair it in the future for X-fire or SLI, or upgrade it. WIll be playing at 1080p res.

Here is what I had in the basket so far, but I really need some help putting together some parts for the build.

All I need is:

Monitor
PSU
Keyboard+mouse
Motherboard
Ram
CPU
Soudcard
GFX Card

So would appreciate it if someone could select some parts in my price range, Im not too sure on cpu, motherboard and graphics card mainly.

Thanks! :)

To be straight, I think you're really wasting your money investing in 775 these days. Even with the latest graphics cards, the CPUs are starting to hold things back.

If you're shelling out £500ish I'd definitely be looking for an i5.

Check the comparison tables here: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/2

thanks for the suggestions, guess I will leave 775 socket then. Also need a computer desk, I guess I could look at getting a cheaper GFX card or something, or maybe check out members market for cheaper deals.

The main thing is getting the motherboard and cpu right, the others are easier to get performance better such as gfx, cross fire etc.

cheers :)

I would be considering i5 completely - if you can fit it in your budget, even by skimping on some stuff. It will be worth it as the sb i5's are very very good overclockers and even at stock are better than any amd processor

well I think i will go i5, im going to hook up the new pc to my tv and use mainly for games for a couple of weeks then get a monitor. This way i have a spare £110 or so :D
