Need some help please - how do you install & get Battlefield 2 to run on Vista?

Been trying to get this installed for my nephew on his Dell. He meets all the min specs etc but when I start the installation it gets to about 1/3 of the way through and then stops giving me an error message along the lines of 'an error has occured. Please try again from the beginning.'

He has Vista SP2 installed, latest Catalyst drivers, new Samsung HDD, so everything appears to be in order. Have looked on the net for possible solutions but without success.

Surely someone here is running BF2 on Vista - what's the trick to completing the install?

Thanks in advance.

I've got it running on vista 64

Just install Battlefield, patch to 1.5 (I think) and turn off that annoying UAC crap

U sure your disk isn't dirty or scratched ?

Disc is fine; can't install patches as I can't complete the install.
Thing is, this lad has had this installed on his machine before but it justs goes into this loop of incomplete install, reboot, retry etc.
Really frustrating as its still a superb game.

Could I try to install from my disc and use his CD key?

Sorry to butt in here but maybe someone can help me. I have bf2 and have not played it since its release. Do i just install the game and download the 1.5 patch? Or do i need to download other patch's before i can install the 1.5 patch?

I can't even get that far - put the disc in, enter CD-key and click install, gets to about 1/3 the way done, stalls, error message & that's it.

Anyone else have this?

have youi tried not using the auto set up, but navigating to the setup program/exe on the disk right clicking and running as administrator?

Eventually got this sorted after multiple attempts, such as those suggested. Used his CD key and my disc & worked a treat - obv dodgy disc. Took my disc out and left his in the drive, game's now working fine. Thanks for all the suggestions.
