Folks, I'm having trouble at getting my Opty stable at overclocks above 2.8GHz when running my RAM on a 166 divider. I was trying 300 x 10 which makes the RAM run at about 245MHz @ 3-3-2-5 but I can't even get passed to POST screen

I know my RAM will run at this speed at 2.7v, as I tried it when I was at 300 x 9. Equally, I know my chip will do 3GHz because it was doing so when on a 133 divider which resulted in my RAM being slightly underclocked. It's when I try and overclock both the CPU and the RAM that I get issues.

I don't think it's voltage related but I'm not really sure where I'm going wrong. Anyone else have this sort of problem? At a guess, I think I need to fiddle with the other RAM timings and maybe the read preamble + async latency but I dunno what they actually do!

Thanks

El Jimben, have you tried upping the vcore? With the memory controller being on the cpu it may need some extra volts though it to cope with the demands of running the memory faster.

Or it could be that your CPU can't do both; ie high cpu speed and running your RAM faster.
