Hi guys

I have just joined the site to try and find some one out there than can give me an idiots guide to OC'ing my brand new and improved PC. What I have is ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe Motherboard, AMD Phenom II Black Edition, (trying to run 8G Corsair RAM - with no luck) 4G at the mo and a Geforce 9800 GTX graphics, with windows 64bit edition (as I was told that 64 bit could handle 8G RAM better than 32bit could) Was I lied too??? Other sites have been no help what so ever, so please please please on my knees, help me!!!!! I need the idiots guide of where to look in the bios and what to change (and please be specific, I can follow instructions rather well but im no good at guessing)

If you need more info on what I have please reply to this post and ill try and give you more

Thanks in advance to all that help - Ill even post pictures of the beast when I get it OC'd

Well, to begin overclocking you need to learn the basic principles really, and have a basic knowledge of what is going on.

The actual process itself I find to be a slow process, where I make small steps (maybe big ones until I hit difficulties) where I slowly up voltages until my system is stable, and then run some tests, and then up my FSB again. Rince and repeat

I don't have any awesome links handy though, I'm sure someone else will know some good ones

Hi there, thanks for the comments. I understand the principles behind and for OC'ing. I have tried many things within the bios myself, the problems Im having is that nothing I try will work, it either will not boot back up or BSOD's at me and memory dumps all over the shop - so I need to know what to do specifically with this board and chip coz what im trying isnt working - some one out there must have the same board and chip as me, if so please tell me how you OC'd it.

As for the RAM it will boot and recognise all 8G, but about 10mins into Windows it BSOD's at me - not sure if its voltage or something else I have missed

So please if some one has the same stuff as me please tell me how you did it

Sounds like the voltage or a faulty stick of RAM.

Since you're running 4 sticks you will more than likely have to increase the NB voltage. Also ensure that you are running the RAM at its specified voltage.

Failing that; try running memtest.

Hi Guys

I have tested the RAM with RightMark RAM tester and its all come out as ok. I also load tested the system and it too came out ok and passed. So im guessing its either the voltage is wrong or I have a prob on my board - also I changed the CPU fan and heatsink, on start up, as its going through its DOS stuff, it comes up with CPU Fan error press F1 to continue, also it comes up with, had to revert to a lower DRAM speed press F1 to continue - is that anything significant????

Thanks again

Chris
