Hi

I have Ubuntu set up on dual boot. I am fairly new to linux and have fiddled around with it so much i think i have messed a few things up like system sounds, XGL and i have boot/grub problems.

What i would like to do is reformat my linux partitions and start all over with a new install. (Mow if it was windows i'd know what to do but with Linux i am stuck).

I have the following partitions:

/dev/sdb4 reiserfs root
/dev/sdb2 ext2 /boot
and a swap partition
and a windows partion

Is it as simple as booting from the CD and installing over the top - does it format the partions in this process.

Will i get the option NOT to format the windows drives?

Is this guide http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17343592&highlight=ubuntu+dual+boot
still relevent to dapper (or edgy for that matter)? I appreciate there will be some differences but are the main bits the same?

Are there other ways to go about this? e.g. is there an option to do a total reinstall/format that i can run from within ubuntu?

Many thanks

Yeah when you run the install cd it will give you the option to reformat/recreate partitions.

It will also pick up on your previous ubuntu install and use the same partitions again by default.

i assume it reformats the partitions? - or does it just copy over stuff?
