Hi all, decided to buy myself TF2 today but then realised it looks garbage compared to what I play on my brothers computer. Anyway I was looking for your help.
Im on a tight budget and am only looking for an upgrade (unless you can find me a PC for 150/200 quid). I want to be able to run TF2 1920x1200 res with everything on high.

Here are the stuffs I have :
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ running at 2.01 GHz
767 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (GeForce FX 5200)

My Mobo is a MSI K8N neo platinum edition and supports AGP chipsets. And the crappy type of RAM.

Is it possible with a budget of £200/£150? Or will I have to get a new PC.

I usually only use my PC for browsing the internetz on my Ocuk 24" - However ive had problems in my past that all point to my rig. (DVI not at correct res, random hanging in windows etc).
Right now im happy with my rig to browse the internets but Id like something that can also run tf2/cs:sauce at high res with full details.

Thanks if you reply and if your not then  you meanie!

EDIT:
Just realised I havent told yall I wont be needing a sound card/network card/cd drive/hard drive/case

well actually im lying on the last thing you should see my case, its such a mess and its full of fail (randomly the side panel falls onto my foot if I dare swivel my seat too much). But it runs my computer :P

If you cant fullfill my criterions please spec me a new rig for a decent price! :)

i put a hdd in because im assuming your current hdd is old and slow, if this is the case then it will cause a bottleneck with the system

Thanks for the swift reply. My HDD is not actually that old and tbh a small setback with a HDD cant stop me playing at full res tf2 can it?

depending on the drive it may make your pc seem sluggish

post your hdd model and date manufactured and someone may give you better advise concerning the HDD

Too much 'work' to be done to current rig. But for around £250...

So, is my current rig deemed untf2full - able? Thanks for the case btw but Id rather put the screws in the back of the one I have already and try to fit something else for a bit more moneys in. Thanks for the spec really nice of you!

Crud i realised it was the power, thats why you put it in.

And current HD is samsung sp0842n. I dont know why but my current rig seems upgradable to play tf2 on full res doesn't it? Anyone bother to spec me an upgrade/tell me why I cant upgrade?

why you cant upgrade

your MB is too old
- doesnt have pci-e for newer graphics cards, the high end agp cards are expensive compared to pci-e ones and not as good.
- doesnt support DDR2 ram.
- doesnt support any up to date cpu socket, in fact it doesnt even support skt939, any dual core cpu will help performance

you could just get a new agp card like the 3850 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...2MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (AGP) - Retail , but the rest of the system will be holding the card back and the agp 3850 is a lot more expensive then the pci-e version

jak731, mobo is Socket 939 :)

Ok. Take 2...
  • Corsair VX 450W ATX PSU (CMPSU-450VXUK) £39.99
  • OcUK Value 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 184pin DDR Memory Dual Channel Kit £39.99
  • OcUK ATI Radeon HD X1950 Pro 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (AGP) - Retail £49.99
  • AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego (Socket 939) - OEM £19.99
  • Sub Total : £149.96
  • Shipping : £8.95
  • VAT : £27.81
  • Total : £186.72
Included a set of matched RAM sticks because some Socket 939 mobos were picky if mixing. Can auction off what you currently have.

But I know which spec I'd rather have & not worry about performance or upgradability

are you sure its skt 939?

a quick google tells me the MSI K8N neo platinum is skt754, while the MSI K8N neo2 platinum and MSI K8N neo4 platinum is skt 939

Sorry lads its not the K8N neo2 platinum, its the k8n neo platinum 1.Was getting a bit happy looking at the upgrade but I guess im going to have to get a full new rig. Better start making some money then huh! (btw im only 16 lol)
