I would like to connect another pc to the internet in my house. The main pc is as sig and i would like to join my girlfriends music making pc to the net also. can I use the second 1394 port on the back of my asus p5w dh motherboard to connect the second pc or do i need to buy a router?

You could in theory yes, set up ICS on your machine and tell it to use the 1394 to share over.
Although it would probably be easier to buy a router, and would also mean you don't have to leave your PC on 24/7 to share the connection.
