i wanted my 3Gs unlocked to 02 so i got somone to do that for me as i wouldnt know where to start. when i got my phone back i found out that it needed to be jailbroken to be unlocked to any network, its currently on ios 4.2.1 tethered, have ios 4.3.3 untethered and want to update to that. my question is how do i update straight to 4.3.3 and will i loose the unlock to 02 if update? i have some redsnow software that boots my iphone when its run out of battery can i use that to update it?

thanks :)

The 3GS can be unlocked and jailbroken on firmware 4.3.3. What you need is the latest version of redsn0w and the 4.3.3 iPhone 3GS firmware.

Use redsn0w to install jailbreak and once this is done use Cydia to install Ultrasn0w to unlock. This will require baseband 6.15.0 (iPad Baseband) This can not be downgraded and this will also void the warrenty on the iPhone if there is any left.

This! Did it on my step-dad's iPhone just last weekend to get it working on his Virgin sim, works a charm.

- i have the latest redsnow and 4.3.3
- will it install over the top of 4.2.1 or do i need to remove that first?
- and do i need to install ultrasnow using the iphone or pc to iphone?

thanks for the replies :)

- installed 4.3.3 using latest redsnow
- came up with a hdd and green arrow then when to white text going down the screen
- now its on the apple logo and has been for last 5mins (should i use redsnow to boot it up?)

its not showing up in itunes and stuck on apple logo still

i tried booting it with redsnow and after the pineapple disappeared the normal apple is back on

i thought it was going well at about 90% and then i got this

Error 1015: This error is caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred.

Sounds like the baseband has already been upgraded to 6.15.0, what your going to have to do now is create a custom 4.3.3 using sn0wbreeze.

Ensure you select Baseband Preservation Mode and create the 'custom' firmware. Once you have the custom firmware saved somewhere you will require the phone to be put into DFU mode, you can use iReb to do this. Then restore using iTunes in DFU mode using your custom firmware you created.

used snow breeze to create the custom ispw

next step to install it using redsnow again?
also to mention its still on the connect to itunes screen.

You don't restore using Redsn0w.

Disconnect the phone from the PC and plug it back in first.

- in DFU mode
- Shift+restore (selected custom ispw i made)
- restoring iphone software with itunes now showing a ********* and progress bar 40%

Be patient, it should restore! Bascially iTunes knows the baseband has been modified on 1015 error, so a custom firmware doesn't upgrade the baseband therefore bypassing the baseband update hopefully not getting a 1015
