I bought a new Audio Technica AT2020 to run through my Line 6 Toneport UX2. I've plugged it in using a balanced XLR, switched on the phantom power, ran it through both gearbox and Reason 5 and I get nothing!!! When I switch the phantom power off I get some sound through along with a stupid amount of noise and distortion!!!

I've been looking forward to using this mic and I'm really annoyed that it's not working!!! Is it something to do with the balanced cable? I read somewhere that you shouldn't use phantom power with a balanced cable because it cancels it out??

I would really appreciate if someone could help with this.

Thanks

Is there a switch on the Toneport (I know my KB37 hasn't got one)?

Try a different lead.

Try the mic & lead in another XLR input if you can if you've got mates in bands or go to a music shop.

Switch for what?? Their's a switch for phantom power if that's what you mean?

I haven't got another lead, I work at a college so I've emailed the music tech people so hopefully I'll be able to test the mic there.

A friend of mine has a similar problem with a similar device - can you try a 32 bit windows system?

It's a long shot but worth a go.

I haven't got a copy!

I'm going to test the outputs tonight to see if my phantom power is actually working, hopefully it's not because I need a new interface anyway.
