Hello, im kinda new to overclockers, and decided to try it out,

I am basicly gonna build my rig from scratch except i got the following already:

DVD dual layer.. blah blah, theyre all the same

Audigy 2 zs, xhifi will come 1 day. not enough money currantly to upgrade

XFX geforce 7900 gt.

maxtor, crappy advent hardrive, some hardware store said its corrupted, i think they kinda tried to fix it. but would it cause any danger to run it in the new rig? i tested on my m8s pc and it was fine for over 2 weeks

crappy advent unbranded ram 512 3200, probably gonna put it in, since its lying around, with the high quality ram im getting, any dangers to this etc?

Now this is the rig so far and im pretty happy about it:
Dfi Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra-D maybe sli-D but i dont really plan on getting another card, tight budget

Thermaltake VB100 BWS Soprano super midi tower-black, i love windows basicly

Seasonic s12 600 *** silent ATX 2.0, some wise man said to me once, never cheap out on psu's, so yea i want a psu i can trust 100%

Maxtor 250 16mb cache 7200 rpm

windows xp, ofcourse, lame microsoft, hate them so much for making me pay so much for a disk full of crap. thats basicly it.

So now i need your advice, what ram to get? I was thinking mushkin 1gb ddr 3200 2x512. seems really nice that 1, low latency and the likes, but once again, some people here are experts and know the pro's and con's etc. etc.

probably the toughest decision is the processor, I want to get a good 1, I dont espescialy wanna overclock anything just yet, but if needed then yea i guess. some people say opteron, to me the numbers seem a bit low on that, but yea i dunno, my last cpu was athlon 3400, it was ok i guess, i was hoping for something that runs faster, like the 4000, the cache owns on that and its 2400 not 2200 fsb. but after all my budget is only 600 maximum, i was hoping for 550 really.

please someone advise me,

Thanks, Roger

Hi there mate,

First off, THANK YOU FOR BUYING A GOOD PSU! Im so glad you did not go for the HIPER :) .

The case- Go for the Coolermaster Centorian 532 and window on this page if you like windows- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Coolermaster_Cases_126.html

A much better case,

Or even the top one here (PC7+ comes with 2x120mm blue l.e.d's, or 2x120).

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Lian_Li_Cases.html

You can buy a side window easily for them.

The ram- No piont mixing fast ram with slow ram as the fast ram will slow down to the speed of the slow ram. Go for the GEIL Value 2GB set and sell your old 2x512mb.

As for the CPU, the only real choices for your price range are-

AMD 3700+, comes with the 1mb cache and only 200mhz slower

AMD 3800+, 2.4ghz, good value cpu if you dont like OC'ing

AMD 3800X2 2.0ghz, dual core, MY RECCOMENDATION

Opteron 146/165, good for OC'ing, but I aint a bit fan, too much trouble for me :)

Good luck
