AMD 64 3500+ overclocking

Ok. System first is:

amd 64 3500+ stock (venice) currently 40c temp using computer as normal (duno at load with games on but say 44c ish at a guess.
2gb geil value ddr 2.5,3,3,7 (from 3.4.4.8 stock)
Arctic Freezer 64 PRO.
asus a8v deluxe rev 2.0

I want to oc it to 2.5ghz (tryed 2.4 ages ago but forgot what i used etc.

What multiplier/HTT setting/Memory divider to use/fsb to use and anything else i have to do bios.

Vcore is 1.4 in bios i think but reads 1.36/7 in everest and pcprobe (dont take cpuz vcore readings as 100% reliable so..

Cheers.

Also for those that overclock there 3500+ cpus and i know theres a few as i seen cpuz pics u posted, please tell me the settings u used and what oc u got and provide pics prooving it. Cheers. Just if i do 2.5 i might try higher but i wana see what others do too.

250 fsb, multiplier of 10
htt x4
5to4 cpu to ram FSB

so:
250x 10 = 2500 clock
250x4-= 1000HTT
4/5 of 250 is 200 for ram

I'd try that since you told me in msn u want to keep ram and voltages at default levels.

Second opinion as snowdog hasnt overclocked a amd cpu before i asked him to post what he thought was correct and i hoped someone could varify or change to work.

He's right enough with the settings he posted mate.Although you may need to raise the vcore slightly & if your cpu is @40C idle there's no way it will be 44C under load.

Ok was about to try the oc but i stoped because theres a few issues with what has been said.

Snowdog said 4/5 divider but my mb bios cant do 4/5 it can only do the following.

1.1 = ddr 200
4:3 = ddr 266
3:2
5:3 = ddr 333
2:1 = ddr 400

So now what do i do?

Also my ram is geil value ddr 2gb (2x 1gb sticks.) Running at 1t command rate, dual channel mode, 2.5, 3, 3, 7 (from 3, 4, 4, 8)

Do i need to loosen timings or change command rate at all?

Also about agp/pci lock

Do i leave it set on auto, or change it to either 66.x/33.x or 73.x/33.x i think

I'd do 5:3 unless you want to overclock your ram too, then leave it @ ddr400 in bios, otehrwise change it to ddr333, if you change it to 333, you can even tighten the timings more, if overclockign your ram: leave it on ddr-400 mode in bios, loosen the timings as its hard to so more than 20 mhz overclock w/o increasing voltage or loosening timings...

Pci/agp lock: i dont know osmeone else woiuld have to tell you about that, i always left it @ default mode and now i cant tell you cos in the meantime i'm on pci-e...

At this point u left me confused, I thought @ ddr 400 mode it sohuld be 1:1 as ddr 400 is actually 200...
But then again I dont know I never overlcocked a athlon 64 yet on an ASUS (american megatrends bios) so you'll have to wait for others advise i think...

I wouldnt mind a few more replies on this incase snowdog is wrong about the divider on my mb.

And as i said before, if you (thats reading this) has a 3500+ venice and has overclocked it could you please share your findings and settings. Cheers.

Ok im at 2.5ghz overclock. Did a super pi 1mb test and results as shown below.

I used these settings

250 fsb
800 shows in bios (4x htt)
AGP PCI lock is set to auto
mem divider is at 3:2 mem is about 205 in cpuz and everest
Multiplier is 10

First attempt at 250fsb to get 2.5ghz failed with blue screen of death during "wlecome to windows loading screen". It was the memory at a too high overclcok (5:3 = 220 on the ram i think) I lowere the fsb to 240 and was ok and was reading 2.4ghz cpu and 218 mem (hence i figured mem was 220 when using 250fsb.

So lowere divider to 3:2 and tryed it again at 240fsb worked ok was in windows. Then 245fsb worked again. Then 250fsb and worked again.

So im gona download prime95 and do a torcher test a bit later on.

CPU temps aint changed on idle being about 34/35c So temps wise its fine.

Cant remember if i said my hardware so here goes.

AMD 3500+ venice
Asus A8v Deluxe rev 2.0
Bios 1014
Mem - Geil Value 2gb (2.5,3,3,7 1T)
Artic Freezer 64 pro

SuperPi 1mb Test results. These ok btw?

If prime stable do u think i can get more out of the cpu? I wouldnt like to push it till breaking point lol. So should I stop here or continue a bit more?

[NOTE!]

I upped the vcore to 1.425 in bios tho still shows as like 1.39 ish in pcprobe and everest. CPUZ probably showing 1.45-1.47 lol as usual. I didnt have to up the vcore but i thought id better just incase.

Try priming for a bit, just to check for big instability's, i can udnerstand u you dotn wnat a 12 hour test, just do 2 hours to test for big problems...
If you wan to let RAM run faster loosen timings (wont make much difference in performance, mainly command rate that counts) and increase voltage...
Temps wont change much no if you dont mess with vcore :p
Anyhow hoep its stable :)

Ok prime 95 blend test didnt go to well first thing it was doing it failed with 1 error.

I tryed loosening the timings to 3.3.3.8 but didnt work so i loosen them bit more to stock 3.4.4.8 and decreased fsb to 247 i think so its about 2.47ghz which aint bad i supose. Anyhow test is now on 2nd line so error must have gone whatever it was.

I would like 2.5ghz tho so any suggestions to avoid the error again if i put it back to 250fsb with slack timings of 3.4.4.8 (stock ram timings) but still on 1T.

Would increasing the vcore more or ram volts help? What are the limits of geil value 2gb ram and amd 64 3500+ venice?

{update}

Using prime95 blend test now, temp 43c and it says on prime test 1-4 self test passed, and again, and again but upto test 3

[update again]

Failed just when i was putting msn messenger on away status.

Duno whats wrong, i need some help on what to do to get stable.

[update 3]

fsb 250
vcore - 1.450 from 1.425
ram volts taken from auto to 2.6 in hope it stabilizes system.
Hope prime runs better now.

If i shouldnt have upper the vcore and ram volts then let me know.

[udate 4]

Meh test failed after 5 mins. Back down to 245fsb and try that instead. Shame as i would have liked to get 2.5 stable or more.

Ok i tryed

mp 9x
270fsb
600 (3x) htt
3:2 or might have been 4:3 (one above saying ddr 266) divider

It wouldnt go past post, and when i did manage to get in bios the damn keyboard wouldnt work when i tryed restoring defaults. Was s*** scared here as i didnt like this.

I managed to get defaults loaded (god i gotta redo whole bios now) eventually by just turning off letting it boot up as normal and then tell me if i wanted to restore defaults so i said HELL YEAH.

Been trying overclocking all day so i officially say **** it. Its not worth 300mhz overclock to 2.5ghz from 2.2ghz stock.
