so getting into pc gaming coming from xbox, will be buying my build around the first week of sept,

now i assumed nvidia cards were better, lower power consumption, less heat, better drivers / shadowplay and more.

now i've been looking around and i'm starting to think amd cards could be the way to go in my case.

i will be gaming at 1440p which i hear amd cards are better for higher resolutions, things that are drawing me to amd are pricevsperformance and mantle and now that the 290x/290 have loads of non reference coolers about i assume overheating / noise isnt that much of a problem.

so enough of my ranting and i dont mean to cause a big fuss over amd vs nvidia but my budget is around 1500-1600 would a 290x be much better than a 290 or could i xfire 290s and get a decent gaming rig?

It mostly comes down to personal preference but for price/performance, AMD come out on top. Nvidia cards do have more features though.

I wouldn't personally xfire non reference 290s due to them dumping hot air into the case (unless you have great spacing and case cooling) reference cards are however very noisy unless water cooling or you have very good headphones :D

I think if buying now, I would get 1 290 non X, with a view to saving for another and sticking them under water in the near future.
