Need some music mixing software

I've used a nero program called wave editor with their version 6 of the burn release but I want to use something newer and better but I can't find anything suitable.

I want to be able to have multiple L/R channels from different tracks and be able to drag a track across the time bar and drop where I want.

Every program I've downloaded lately just have a single track channel and you can add another after to mix them together but I want for example to use lyrics from one song and the music from another.

Anybody know of a decent program?

Not sure if this is quite what you want, but the freeware Audacity?

I know you can have multiple tracks playing alongside each other and chop them apart at will... not sure if it will be as functional as you need though.

Did you try Cool Edit 96? (also see note at bottom of webpage)...
