Hey all

Just wondered if someone could answer a couple of overclocking questions for me incase im doing something wrong. I've just built an i7 system for myself which is an i7 930 running on a Asus P6X58D-E motherboard.

I have the main overclocking setup working fine, ive got it pushed to 3.360 which is where i wanted to be. Theres just a couple of settings im unsure about.

My memory is this memory http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-205-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1389 which is 1600. The beginners guide i used to overclock my i7 says to set the memory frequency to lower than this at 1282. Is this correct or can i just select the option in my bios that says 1604? Both work i just wanna know which i should be chosing.

Secondly i have left the vclk and qpi link data rate to auto in the bios is this ok?? If i were to change it the most suitable options would be 3207 for the vclk which is double my ram speed and 5774 for the qpi link data rate. Should i set it to these or leave them on auto?

When i run CPU-Z it says my core speed is 3358.8 which is correct and it says the qpi link is 2878.8, does this mean having the qpi on auto is working correctly because im not sure what the link speed is meant to be?

many thanks in advance to anyone that can answer these questions

Leave vcore on default settings for this humble clock. If you want to run your RAM at 1600MHz I suggest setting your vdimm on 1.66v. Then set your QPI on 1.3V and work your way down one notch at a time, each time testing for stability. Once unstable/BSOD then up it one notch and prime test blend for 8hr + for complete stability confidence.

What cooler are you running? Might get away with stock cooler at this clock but keep an eye on those temps! What are they under load btw?

Yup u can have the memory @ 1604, just make sure u set the memory volts to 1.64/1.65, depending on what bios version u have, as the first one that it came with when new did'nt allow 1.65, so u may have to use 1.64 or 1.66.
