My budget is 150€ (this doesnt include software & OS) , but already got a lot of parts ( wich costed me €27.50 ):

Need (needs to fit in 112.5 €, bout 70 quid, but willing to strech is essential):

CPU - need one, been thinking between: Sempron 3200, amd x2 3600+, amd 64 3500+, all are around same price ( although the sempron is 20€ cheaper as the x2 & single core 3500) , socket AM2

PSU - SILENT & LASTING, must run 24/7 !- about 350 watts I guess should be enough, after the reliability & silence my only requirement for it is as cheap as possible ?

And a Silent cooler, I don't want it to disturb my sleep, the system will be in my own bedroom, so needs to be silent. Socket AM2

I will be doing NO overclocking, just using it as a server, and as a lan gaming machine ( so i have 2 gaming worthy pc's at home) , will be plugged into my tv also so occasional film also...

alrdy got:
Generic leftover case.
Asus m2n-mx got it for 12.50 €
2gb ddr2 leftovers from my main system.
5 leftover small hdd's, will be all on a promise raid controller card i already have...
ati x700 fanless heatpipe cooled graphics 256 mb - got it for 15 €

Also would like to know wich os to install, I have @ home: xp 32, and vista x64 ( pro and ultimate), wich one would be nice for 24/7 use ( must prefferably support coolnquiet, power saving stuff, etc... ), will be used as file & download server & print server.

How will this pc run recent games, reso will be 800x600/1024x768 ( old crt tv )?

Any further suggestions?

Sorry for this long post with questions, but please try to awsner all my questions, thanks in advance !

If they are all roughly the same price then I'd get the X2 as it should be the most capable of the chips.

PSU - maybe take a look at Akasa or FSP, they both make decent PSUs that are reasonably priced.

Not too sure about the cooler, an Arctic Freezer 7 is a fairly obvious choice but I think some are a bit better than others. :)

//edit - the PC should run games ok at the fairly low resolutions but don't expect too much since the graphics card is about the equivalent of a 9800pro.

K just thought about the prices and its all in budget, itll be freezer 64 pro ( if i find the normall amd fan noisy @ low rpm), amd 3600+ x2, and a yet to be decided psu for the remaining 35 €.

How will this machine run supcom @ lowest settings @ 800x600 compared to my main pc ( pD 3.9 ghz, 2gb, 6800gs, medium settings, 1280x1024 res) ?
Mind that I'm used to fps like 15-25 in supcom, and hope the machine im buildign now will run at min 10 , prefferably average 20 fps, on supcom with the settings stated ( upto 4 player battles btw, 2000 global max units ( so 1k per player if 1vs1, 500 if 2vs2) ).

Decided to go for vista x64 for all the goody's alrdy included ( media center, voice controll from bed, as now that i think of it, while it on anyhow 24/7, might aswell use the thing for playing stuff on my tv) and 64 bit future proofing...

Also how bad will an ages old 20 gb hdd lag vista ( as said in 1st post ,got a lot of leftover hdd's, mainly small ones...), mind that I do have 2gb ram and the thing will run 24/7 so I hope superfetch will keep most used stuff in cache to prevent hdd lag) ?

Also wich 3600 to go for, Windsor or Brisbane? Both cost the same.

vista on an old hard disk will be terrible. I'd put xp pro on that spec myself

Renember though I wont be booting more as once though, will just run 24/7 to dl stuff and to have a printer on 24/7, and the occasional game, i mean @ start itll be slow, but once its cached it should be fast right, 2gb should be enough to cache most junk?

What about the cpu and other questions in my 2nd post?

I'd go for the energy efficient X2 3600+ brisbane, I think these use less power and overclock better than the windsor cores,

Brisbanes are the new 65nm, windsor are the older 90nm.
