Hey,

Had a minor off during a bend on Saturday night (seems culprit was some slippery stuff + loose gravel). I veered off road and landed on grass on my right hand side. Only walked away with some scratches and a thumb that's broken in 2 places...

Anyway, I need to see if you guys/gals would have or know someone who has some of the following parts that I require.

- handlebar (it's bent on the right hand side so it's an inch-ish closer to me)
- the bracket that's attached in the forks that holds the indicator and headlight in place
- it's a big ask but a RHS fairing in black...

I have the pictures of work needing to be done here: http://imgur.com/a/BdJtp

It doesn't look like much but I'd like to get the 'feel' back of my bike as it's not feeling quite right at the moment.

Cheers!

The indicator bracket is mild steel and could very easily be straightened out. Handlebars could be had from a bike breakers (check yellow pages etc.) or eBay, though Renthal alloy bars are not expensive.

Fairings will probably be harder to find, though again worth a search at the breakers and eBay. Your fairings may well be repairable however, you can repair crack plastic with welding and a respray (if required) shouldn't cost too much for a small panel.

Cheers for the tips.

Will try bending the indicator bracket back and try to get it as even as possible. I think I'll opt for some Renthal bars but I'll need to find some that closely resembles the factory ones so it doesn't feel TOO out of shape. I don't want to have one that makes me lean lower than I have to.

The fairings are bloody expensive so I've found but it seems that I'll need to look around for someone who can melt/repair plastic. The damage is only on the inside where the faring clips onto the bike thankfully so it's out of sight. Would garages normally do this kind of work or will it need to be done at a specialised place?

With regards to the bars, just get them oem ones, when I dropped my Bandit in to the back of a stopped car, I replaced with renthal bars, they were a faf to fit, drilling and fitting, and they upset the handeling of the bike,
Due to the slight shifting of more weight over the front wheel, replaced them a month later for the real deal and it was a revalation to go back to

Bullit

Interesting. Where and how much were your bars as they seem to be around 70+ quid where I'm looking. The renthals are half that...

Check Gumtree out mate as I've had excellent results on selling & buying on there in the last year or so. Even put a wanted advert up it's free.

Did you buy bars that were a completely different shape to the OEM ones then? There's no other way they could have had any significant impact on handling.

FWIW I put Renthal bars on my Dads SV650 and it was about a 15-20 minute job to remove the old ones and install the new ones, including drilling the holes for the pegs in the switch gear, and also repairing one of the pegs that had sheared off by drilling and tapping it for a short length of threaded bar.

have you tried heating the handlebars up with a heatgun and gently pulling them back into shape? works really well on aluminium brake/clutch levers also, just gently bend tham back a bit at a time

take the fairing to have the mounting lug plastic welded, the chrome indicator mount id heat up and bend it back into place with a wooden drift so not to mark the chrome

wazza - I don't trust myself with a heatgun so I'd rather have a new one just so it feels right again. Same goes with the fairing, just need to find a bloke who can sort that stuff out properly.

Got a response from Gumtree about the exhaust but it was aftermarket (a micron and a scorpion can with linkpipe). Fella said it came from a Bandit 1200 so it 'might' fit mine. Would rather have a guarantee that it did before I buy it, even if it's £50.

I wasn't aware that drilling was required for handlebars - is this for the Renthals only or the factory standard one too?

Get tomorrows MCN & have a call round the breakers to get an idea of prices.
if you really must have new parts then http://www.oemmotorparts.com/oem2.asp?M=Suzuki is a good port of call for suzi bits.

As for drilling after market handle bars, stock bars on some bikes are drilled, so the cables can be routed thru the bars for neatness, on after market bars, that jobs usually down to you, factory std are predrilled.

The drilling on the bars is purely to locate the peg in the switchgear that prevents the switchgear rotating on the bars. I wouldn't be comfortable drilling a large hole for routing cables through alloy bars - too much risk of introducing a stress raiser which could cause cracking.
