need some tips for hazard perception test :(

Just got back from doing it and was beat out by 4 points in hazard perception. :(

Anyone that taken the test recently any advice to offer? Ive got the driving test success dvd's at home and i know the actual test differers slightly. I cant remember though if youve to click at the start of and at the end of a hazard or just when you see one. really annoyed at the minute as i got through the question aprt (which i was weaker at) concentrated on the questions at home and then my stronger point on the dvd (perception) beat me out :(
 
Just click as soon as you see something that could be seen as a hazrd. You only have to click once. There is only 1 major hazrd per clip except one has 2 in. Just click everytime you see something new etc, thats *** I did
 
click when you see a potential hazard in the distance, click again if it develops into something you might have to alter your speed or course for, and then again when you would actually make the changes, just to be sure. Don't be afraid to click it, it will ignore your answer if you click like a nutter, but 3 or 4 clicks per hazard will be fine and you are guaranteed good points that way.

That really is the best way. Try it and see :)
 
Pretty much was clicking 4 or so times per clip at stuff i could see. Some of the vids to me seemed like there was nothing going on in them. One seemed to be a dual carriageway with 2 cars hundreds of yards away and really thats all there was in it, just seemed to be nothing to click at signwise or anything =/

I did what he said.

click once when in the distance, a second as its developing in to a hazard and a third when you need to take action (change course or brake)

IIRC you not really looking for signs so much, more other road users and they especially want you looking for pedestrians & cyclists from what i remember on these tests.

I can remember two motorway ones off the top of my head. A car leaving a parking bay or service station and joining the motorway & a van changing lanes close to a car causing it to brake...

Well there was lol. You need more practice if you cant see the hazards mate. You watched the training vids? and got your instructor to explain what hazzards to look for?

yes but in some of the vids there seemed to be nothing to click at. I do these in the house regularly and always get a good score, but in the test vids sometimes there seemed to be nothing going on. That and the fuzziness of the vids didn't help matters. :mad:
 
yeah, I do think that this test is a bit crap though. once you have passed you quickly learn that practically everything is a hazard on one level or another when you are driving.
 
It will be hard to think back.. There will have been a hazard maybe even two! That you have missed. Practice makes perfect really.
 
It's when you can't see hazards as well - narrow lanes, blind corners, look for feet behind cars on the pavement, lorries moving in the distance - those are all things they're looking for.
 
that is the easiest part of the test. just keep clicking every 2 seconds as soon as u see something that might be a hazard..i passed it easy.
 
get the DVD and learn them off by heart

you eventually learn what the test considers a hazard, and when to click it. I know when i first took the test, what i considered i should probably be clicking on as a hazard (ie cyclist) they didnt want me to click on

The bus parked up at the bus stop wasnt a hazard, untill it put its indicator on. Click it is a potential hazard before it gets its indicator on and it thinks your jumping the gun and you get no points etc..

Obviously every piece of footage is differenent, but just giving you an idea as how beneficial the practice DVDs are as they help you learn exactly what they're looking for.
 
The only problem with the PC hazard perception tests is the low res, especially at night its hard to see certain hazards. They are good tho and really do help you spot hazards, eventually it become second nature almost.

They catch you out quite a bit with spotting the right hazard (ie a bus) but pressing it as a hazard when you first see it before it does anything gets it marked down as 0 points because you were too early.
 
i found that part a bit annoying not sure how much its changed in 2 years but i found looking at the signs where always helped and some idiot guy walking on the path not looking where he is going that sort of thing. also my instuctor helped me out if you are just driving around town ask them to say when they see a hazard to tell you then you tell them what it is or something gets you thinking.

just a suggestion.
 
The hazards are pretty obvious to be honest - remember it's not just what is a hazard now, or even a hazard at all - just what you need to be aware of in case something develops.

e.g. seeing a van coming down a side road - you can't see it properly yet, it will almost certainly stop when it gets to the junction, but it might not and it does no harm to be ready for him doing something stupid.

I took my test late in life, so perhaps I had time to become more cynical of my fellow man - but basically expect everybody to do the stupidest thing possible and you won't go far wrong.

Thats another myth - if you click all the way through you get a zero, but if you just click at everything you think may be a hazard you won't. Hesitating because of the dreaded zero wil make you fail - if you see a hazard, click, if you see the hazard develop further - click again.
